Need a new rig ASAP

The cheapest 2011 mobo I can find on Scan is £170 and the cheapest CPU is £220. I would rather have a mid-high end board with a i5-2500k CPU rather than cheapest board of such a new architecture. Remember what happened with Sandybridge launch boards...

Up to you though mate, the P8Z68 Pro GEN3 board supports Ivybridge and PCI3, should be more than enough future proofing and power. If you have an incredibly high budget then maybe consider 2011 but I wouldn't bother.

The question of which is best really comes down to what you are going to be doing with the system. If you are gaming or normal usage there really isnt going to be much of a difference between the 1155 and the 2011 sockets performance. Now on applications where high memory bandwidth or extreme ends on PCI-e bandwidth are heavily multi-threaded jobs you might see a difference with the 2011 socket based boards and processors in performance.

So if you are doing something like video editing go with socket 2011 or if you are gaming or normal usage go with 1155.

Well I am happy with the p8z68-v pro gen3 with the i5-2500k, if you search google this pair seems to be a favourite amongst overclockers.

I thought the Msi board was -4.5 on air oc . But asus have always been my fav before having the Msi

As I don't usually overclock I didn't look into it that heavily. I just wanted Ivybridge support, PCIe 3.0 support and enough connections on board. The mobo I posted comes very highly recommended but there may be better out there for that price.
