BBC News Paul Scholes comes out of retirement at Manchester United

Paul Scholes has come out of retirement and will play for Manchester United until the end of the season.

The former England midfielder, 37, retired at the end of last season and has been coaching at United.

But he has been persuaded to help United through their injury crisis and is on the bench for Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie at Manchester City.

Scholes said: "I'm delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team."

So daft when people make a huge fandango out of retiring, only to rescind it a few months later

    Shooooooo-ryuken!

71 - After coming on after 60 mins, Paul Scholes made 71 passes (97% complete), more than any Man City player in the entire game. Comeback.

Owen Hargreaves made history today by being the first ever player to be stretched ON to the pitch.

Another way of looking at it is 3-0 up at half time Scholes on first pass he attempts over 4 yards goes to a city player and they score.....I'll stick by what I said when he retired....

I think you are doing Fergie a disservice, todays return of the ginger wizard was not about him being a game changer, it was about lifting team sprits and fans spirits, why else would the players not have been told about it until they got to the dressing room. He was used by fergie as a tool today to help dispell any nerves before the game and generally lift things. I think he achieved this OK, as for contributing to the team for the rest of this season Im sure he can still give something in the smaller games, its a squad game everyone knows that and he will be used accordingly as is giggs.

Seems like you got his description spot on there, Do you think him coming back would have made any difference to the game without the sending off? Doesn't it set alarm bells ringing? Oh and roll on the 28 jan lets welcome back Evra.

Got to say for me Scholes coming back is a sign of desperation and nothing else. Fuck me the guy was a season past it last season, and he's who we turn to? If it inspired the players fuck it, bring back Sir Bobby, because he was better than Scholes. Fucking hell, it was a stupid and ludicrous decision as far as I'm concerned. He's retired, he's unfit, and we play him. Stupid. But no, Fergie doesn't think we need to strengthen in midfield, buy anyone in - because we have Scholes coming back. Fuck me.

Matthew, Becks will always be better than Charlie Adams. Don't be soft. In 10 years time Becks will STILL be better than Charlie Adams.

    Thanks to BBK

A great romantic gesture at a time when football is more than ever a commercial business or rich mans play / win thing.

Just hope Scholes coming back doesn't prevent Pogba and Morrison coming through.

End of the day this just highlights the problem that is the Glazers.

Waste £250k a week on world class players or waste the same £££ on interest payments... Both lead to financial ruin but at least one brings trophies.
