Is Iphone 4 photo recovery possible using Winscp and ssh?

I,ve lost loads of pics after upgrading to IOS 5, i have restored the phone 3 times and still they are missing!
I have also SSH'd into the phone and they arn't in the var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE folder.
Is there any way i can get them back?

Did you restore from backup? Were photos set to sync to your PC?

Recovering data from the iPhone itself is unlikely, I am not sure if it is possible but if it is I would imagine it would be difficult. You are more likely to have success if you have an old backup and use a backup extractor to browse the file. Find the folder where your iPhone backups are stored and COPY the whole folder as it is to a separate folder on your desktop. Then download some backup extractor software to browse the files and see what you can recover.

The reason you must copy the backup folder is iTunes will overwrite old backups with new ones. You may find the old backups have already been overwritten.

I,ve seen a few posts where people have made a complete disk image from the iphone then recovered from the image but i cant find how to do it!

Were photos set to sync to your PC?

I was asked by someone to do this recently, I found a photo cache folder in docs and settings, I think it was under my pictures for the relevant user but can't remember now. Yes photos set to sync. and no dont have the photo cache folder as the pc i,m using has been recently formatted due to a virus.
Is there a way to set the iphone like an external drive so i could run some recovery software?
