    Photos In the Dark..

Stopped by a shop on the way home and picked myself up a tripod. Then got home and went across the street to the beach to pop my outdoor DSLR cherry

My aim was to try and get some nice star shots but I think I will have to accept the fact that the 18-55mm kit lens isn't the best. Anywho, here's the best of my photos. No cropping or editing, exactly what came out of the camera. Would love some tips and pointers and any constructive criticism. Calling me a blind cunt is also acceptable.

Today's instalment, went up the mountains today but no tripod, freezing weather and the misses' mother prevented me from taking as many pics as I would have liked.

This last one was a nice view but I couldn't quite get the contrast in the clouds I wanted. Any tips about how I could make the clouds look as foreboding as they actually did? Thanks..

keep em coming. looks a bit rough on the tops, as for the sky the middle is totally blown and unrepairable, there are a couple of ways, you could use an nd grad filter or expose the sky correctly and have a dark foreground and correct in post pro, or blend two togeather is photoshop, lots of tutorials on line, a good monthly mag like digital photo explain and do tutorials on stuff like that, good luck

    Thanks to peterc4

Love the first shot of the stars - nice shot of Orion there. I find it really difficult to focus on stars

Couple from tonight, my first attempt at star trails, I know they're short but I got cold and bored! Also not too happy with the small gap in the first frame but startrails was refusing to put the files in order even though they were names in ascending order!

Today's efforts, the night ones were shot in RAW which gave me the chance to make some adjustments to levels etc to get them how I wanted. Hope you enjoy!

The bench picture came out pretty poor so decided to give it a 'retro' look to save it.
