teajay, cant be sure but my mate might have an empty box left over when the hard drives got silly, he bought a nas and took the h/d out of it. ill try to get in touch now.

Have you looked into freenas mate? If you have drives you are already halfway there, just need a cheap old p4 PC.

Sorry to jump in here but I too am after something similar . At the minute all my media is stored on my upstairs pc . Have got playbook, iPad , 2 squeezeboxes all accessing it. Would need about 1- 2 tb. Would one of those devices be able to replace my pc for this purpose ?

The only problem is its IDE and not SATA, but if you have any old drives kicking about, you might be able to make use of it.

Yes a NAS would do the job but some HD content probably won't stream smoothly over wireless. There are several threads in the PC section discussing switches, homeplugs etc.

Think a mate of mine has still got a Qnap TS-201. At last count he didn't want a lot for it. I have the same one and although it's getting old now will do everything you require. Mine's been running for 5 years, probably more without a hitch.
Think he wanted about £40 for it. I'll find out if you want.
