going from 2.0.14717.0 to 2.0.14719.0 does not flash drives back to stock

you must of been on lower than 2.0.13599.0 for that to happen which was ages ago

its been out for some days
updated a rgh falcon to 14719 yesterday.

I have a completely vanilla console so I have no concerns about updates but I have to say this one was a pain in the arse, 30 minutes and about 10 attempts at 2:30 am!! I eventually gave up, walked into my studio and downloaded it with my Mac, transferred it to a USB key to find it had finally worked!!

If you're using JTAG/RGH, as far as I am aware there are no games that require anything higher than 13599 at this point in time, so no real need to update unless a game comes out that requires a newer dash than that.
