BT had balls up my order. Everything's gone through, but got told I have to wait another 2 days so they can arrange for the engineer to come.
Is it necessary for an engineer to come round the house to replace a modem?
Depends. In most cases yes as they need to move you onto the fibre network. Takes about an hour.

He did replace my faceplate and do some diagnostics - maybe it's just like the early days of DSL when they were all engineer orders?
I just kicked off a download in sab and it started at 7MB/sec and then suddenly dropped to a constant 3MB/sec - rebooted the modem which is still showing it's connected at max speeds so guess they've got traffic shaping on Astraweb in place maybe now? Either that or my local cabinet / exchange is being nailed!
It will take a few days before your speeds are settled. I think it's either 24 or 48 hours. I wouldn't worry. Once you are settled the speeds will tear along - until then it will be patchy.

It literally just took a nosedive after 14 days mate, hoping it's not the DLM thinking it should go slower, although it is connecting at the full speeds. I'll kick something else off overnight and see what it reports tomorrow
Reverend the only time I've had slowdown on ngs it was down to astraweb . I got a trial account with another provider and it was fine . Ive noticed speeds on astraweb a bit up and down sometimes .

Ah bugger, it was my Homeplugs - just pulled one from the socket and popped it back in and back to full speed
The modem showing 14 days and 0 hours was just a total coincidence

Nice one cheers mate, that will come in useful
This shows why I thought it was suddenly capped, as random as it sounds it halved as the oven was on, would never have noticed a 30Mbps cap before on the Homeplugs as that was higher than my old connection!
The first bit was a test on Speedtest which was all over the shop, then the next constant part was sab and looked that steady I assumed it was capped! The bit at the end is more what I've seen since having Infinity 2, it's kind of all over the shop and doesn't flatline like I'm used to but it's bloody quick
just got mine installed today, tested at 71mb and 15mb upload, speeds been all over the shop since, varying from 20mb up to 80mb, hopefully it settles down to somewhere near 70ish considering I'm only about 100m away from the cabinet.
sabnzb is currently downloading at full pelt, is it worth cancelling all downloads for 48hours while is stabilises or will it not make any difference?
when i use speedtesting sites (since it went to "80 meg") results wander around a lot. however, when im using newsleecher - a much more realistic test for actual use for me - the speeds are constant - well when downloading huge files -. for me just shy of 8meg second. the graph only dips when my pc is unrarring etc
I just let mine run at full pelt mate, went and added a couple of shows to give it a good running in
Same here on the speed testers btw, my local one is Derby and it can be all over the shop!
Dont rely on speed test. Their servers have a limit before their speed testers show very flakey results
Had a text from BT today (9th May) finally letting me know when it's all happening for me (24th May).
A fortnight is a LONG time for me. I really wanted a button to be pressed and away I went...
How long did you guys have to wait patiently?
Here is my speedtest result and the max i get on newsgroups is.
8600 kb/s
Speedtest cannot be trusted has anyone managed to hack the modem so we can see true throuput.

To answer your questions mate, unfortunately you do need an engineer, my install wasn't smooth sailing and without the guy i'd be without internet. They replace the faceplate with a new one, its a bit bigger and i'm gathering has other features other than its bigger lol. Although you don't need to let him near your pc. Part of the install is they are "supposed" to install a CD onto your machine ( pile of pish )
I had a delay in getting mine also, this was because I was moving my phone line from one company back to BT. It was only going to be a 2 day delay but I was away on holiday and had to re-arrange for 2 weeks.
yes my engineer loved me because i did all the work for him. I agree he is not required any one can fit a faceplate on. I flashed the unlocked firmwre on my modem to see my maximum attainable speed.
70mb 30mb upload
