Have to find a wedding photographer...!

I'm getting married later this year and have been tasked with picking the photographer by the missus. She's starting to get a bit panicky now and wants me to get my arse in gear, but i haven't been inspired by any of the chaps i've chatted with so far. Maybe i'm just scared of getting it wrong if you know what i mean.
Does anybody have experience of this or possible recommendations (I'm in manchester)?
Any help / advice would be appreciated.

I have a guy that is the fucking nuts.

He and his wife work together. He will have his wife pretending to take a shot from the front, and he will secretly be taking the better shot from the side, without people actually posing.

I can send you some of his shots from our wedding / party if you want to check him out.

He's in London and will cost you a bit more than a regular guy,

A Because his reputation can,

B, Because he will need accommodation.

but you cant put a price on these things!

Get in touch with edwin stemp from high contrast. Tell him si ellershaw passed you on to him. Hes not the cheapest but hes amazing. He does a lot of fashion and pr photography but he does weddings aswell.

I am a wedding photographer and i regularly buddy up with SimonH for 2 shooter jobs.
If you do a search for Photographic Clarity (Me) on FB there is one of my recent weddings on there, this was shot with the help of SimonH as i am in some of the pictures because it was my sister in laws wedding....

To be honest asking for a photographer on here is like asking for someone to babysit you're kids on a paedophile forum, I suggest who ever you go for you look at a mass of there work before hand as what is someone else's taste may not be your own and if they don't have it to show you walk away.

Great quote, i'll have to bear that in mind. Thanks for the info and advice, I have had a look through some of the links and am impressed but also frightened at the same time. Which leads into.... Budget.
We of course under budgeted for everything and have fast been learning that you can either do stuff cheaply and live with the consequences or put yourself into 5 years worth of debt and hopefully get what you want. (When i say what you want, i mean - what she wants )

So, what do you think i should be bracing myself for? I know the answer will be anywhere from £300to £9999 depending on just how far you want to go. But i would like to have a set of pics that capture the day in a decent manner. I do not have thousands of £s to throw at it so at what point does "value" become luxury?

You need someone who can provide the photography, the CD of images/album etc all comes after and is not so important.

If the place is dark as hell will they be able to get the shots, likewise will they manage in glaring sun light.

Even if you do not want to use me i am happy to advise.
