Photos If only it had been sharper though...

As it says in the title...

The overcast grey day this afternoon, combined with being in the woodland of the imposing and old Banks Hall on the outskirts of Preston, meant an ISO of 800 on this photo of the first bumble bee of the year.

Add to all that, I had left my bean bag at home which meant I had nothing to hand to get down low and dirty with so this was hand held whilst trying to get myself as close to ground level without getting too messy (cos I was on my way out somewhere afterwards so had no chance of getting changed if I got covered in any muck!)

So the image has had to have a fair bit of editing done, including some aggressive NR and selective Gaussian blur work to get it looking like this...

    Exif:

    Camera Maker: Canon
    Camera Model: Canon EOS 550D
    Lens: EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
    Image Date: 2012-03-21 10:33:47 +0000
    Focal Length: 100mm
    Focus Distance: 0.41m
    Aperture: f/6.7
    Exposure Time: 0.011 s (1/90)
    ISO equiv: 800
    Exposure Bias: none
    Metering Mode: Matrix
    Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
    White Balance: Auto
    Flash Fired: No (enforced)
    Orientation: Normal
    Color Space: ProPhoto RGB
    GPS Coordinate: undefined, undefined

Came out pretty damn good though mate. Love the DoF around it and the aggressive NR has allowed for a dreamy effect. Perhaps a touch of selective fill or maybe a little dodging on the beastie itself just to bring the slightest bit more detail out?

    Either way, lovely shot.
