    Advice Modern version on the home cinema thread

    OK so after dejavu's indexers thread on his df indexer client and other threads on media players / servers etc i have decided to spend some time updating my setup.

    was thinking this might be good if it ran like the home cinema thread.

    I currently have boxee running on my pc, connected to my panny plasma, dennon amp and morduant short genies but seeing has boxee now not suppported and probably old hat and heard people mentioning plex etc i think thats due a change, i use newsleecher for my nzbs and love the interface and love it but dont think it will integrate with players and auto series links etc,i heard about sickbeard and SABnzbd for doing this but newsleecher interface would be nice, i then manually grab my nzbs from nzbmatrix, binsearch and scenesource.

    i would like to try and fully integrate my nzb grabber and seatcher/sceduler with player and it to run on windows so what are you guys running ?? pros cons etc

    looked at sick beard earlier but wasnt to impressed tbh, so guess in summary im after

    windows 7x64 based media streamer/player that if possible can add my shows and movies that i add to a queue downloader or watchout list, the application autodownloads them, unrars, adds them to the player, deletes the rubbish and sorts out naming, covers, synopsis etc and they then auto appear into the streamer/players listings

    waffled on a bit but do you get the idea ? or have i been smoking too much crack

    ps could be in the wrong section but wasnt sure

    Are you asking what peoples setups are? or advice on what to get?, Here's my setup anyway.

    55" 3D Toshiba downstairs, connected to this is an Onkyo 5.1 Home entertaiment center.
    Connected to the Onkyo via a 4x2 splitter I have SkyHD, PS3 and Xbox360.Also bypassing the splitter I have a WDTV Live hub with 1Tb drive (Networked).
    Upstairs I have a 32" Toshiba which has the other splitter output via HDMI (SkyHD,PS3 and Xbox360) and a WDTV Live streaming (Wireless N)

    What this gives me is the ability to play, watch and control any combination of Sky,PS3,Xbox360 or media player up and downstairs.
    The WDTV Live hub acts as a network drive even while in standby. So I download from the usual NZB sites using newsbin and just manually move them from the computer to that drive after renaming to my preference. The WDTV hub automatically adds cover art and synopsis for each movie added (even in standby) occasionally a movie cant be found but you can still search manually. I could download directly onto the hub but I prefer to rename first. The WDTV Live streaming (upstairs) plays everything thats on the WDTV Live Hub via wireless N although I dont watch HD on that (usually HD stuff has decent audio and I prefer to use the amp downstairs) Both players will stream directly from the PC too if you prefer it that way.
    If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
    The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

    I have a readynas ultra 4 with 4x2TB drives running sabnzbd, sickbeard and couchpotato. That connects to a gigabit switch which connects to gigabit homeplugs. Gigabit homeplug in my room connected to another gigabit switch. Switch connects to my 360, PS3 and acer REVO. All connected to my 50" panny plasma. Media center running xbmcbuntu Eden. iPad configured to access all the software running on my readynas, has wake on LAN to turn the media center on and use XBMC commander for controlling XBMC.

    I have user script so can browse IMDB and add movies to couchpotato with the click of a button. Love this setup so much, makes life so much easier and keeps all my stuff up to date.

    What was it you didn't like about SickBeard mate? The interface is a bit basic but in terms of everything else it's kind of fire it off and then forget about it in terms of TV shows?

    I think you can get aftermarket software to populate any more metadata, I'm using a WDTV at the moment and that automatically brings down all the metadata for everything, it works pretty well actually.

    I have Sabnzbd set to autodownload anything in the TV category to a \SabTV folder, which Sickbeard then scans, renames, downloads metadata for and moves over to a \TV folder where it's all kept neat and tidy, by series name and season? Sickbeard autodownloads everything from NZBMatrix and then queues up into Sabnzbd for me. I don't have to lift a finger - really should look into Couch Potato too!

    Gotta say that XBMC with sabnzb, sickbeard and couchpotato is the ultimate for me.

    As has been said, everything is downloaded, renamed, art populated and added to the library with the minimum of input from me (basically just telling it what I want!)

    Maybe to get a feel for it, it may be worth trying openElec, that has sabnzbsuite as an add-on, which has all 3 programs included and 99% setup for you.

    I am very soon building a new windows based HTPC purely for HD audio, but openElec has been brilliant fur the past 18 months that I have used it.

    I have a HP micro server running Unraid with 6x2tb.
    Sabnzbd running with rss feed from nzbmatrix, did look in to setting up sickbeard and couch potato but found this was good enough for me.
    Also use mynzb app on iphone to queue up things on the go.

    plex is installed for media streaming to iphones/ipads and my samsung tv which also has a plex client available and works really well.

    XBMCbuntu is the OS running on my Acer Revo R3700
    which -

    1. Serves my MySQL Database for a shared library to the 4 ATV2's I have in all the bedrooms (all wired by a 10/100Mb LAN)
    2. Has Sickbeard, CouchPotato, SabNZBd+, Subsonic, Headphones, Transmission, Mollfiy & Maraschino running on it and is all completely automated from my Galaxy S2.
    3. Has 4x 2TB USB Drives attached.
    4. Also has 2 further 1TB drives mounted from my Windows PC.

    There is no doubt I'm pushing this little system. But no matter what I throw at it, it just zooms along nicely.
    Even playing 1080p video's whilst extracting 8Gb's of data has not effect.
    Acer Revo is certainly the way forward for a Low Power Media PC.

    Lovingly nick named 'My Little Trooper'.

    I was thinking of upgrading to a full build PC. But I know it'll bring more problems. The Noise, the cost, the power consumption.
    My Revo has sat next to my TV for almost 2 years and it's still as quiet as the day I bought it.

    --EDIT
    And for those wanting the 'Desktop' experience with their HTPC, XBMCBuntu now comes with one, without all the bloat of a full Windows install.

    just got myself setup with a Denon amp and some Pioneer 5.1 speakers with active sub, sounding very nice, still got my original WDTV at the moment but considering the Hub in the near future. I also have plans to mount my TV and speakers in a false chimney breast on the wall this year with some mood lighting lol.

    Completely agree with DejaVu ref the Acer Revo - I currently have one too and its awesome for the price and what it does.

    The only real reason that im "upgrading" is that I want HD Audio, as my amp does it, and it is now achievable in windows XBMC.

    Sickbeard = TV Shows
    Couchpotato = Movies
    Headphones by Rembo = Music
    Subsonic = Stream Music (Anywhere)
    Mollify = NAS'ify your HTPC PC's Storage
    Maraschino = Administer the lot

    Jobs a goodun.

    Im running

    HP Smart Media NAS with 4x 2TB drives. On there it's running Sickbeard, Couchpotato, SabNZBD and Maraschino.

    Also on there I run my squeezebox server with streams audio all round the house using 3x receivers and I control that with a Duet controller and a app on my iPad and Galaxy S2. Also there are apps to turn your phones into receivers as well.

    For movies I have a revo in the front room running XBMC which is fecking amazing to be honest, all the plugins and addons just make this unbeatable for me!

    Now on my Revo it's running SQL to share a library between the revo and my aTV in the bedroom. Which syncs everything, so if I pause a movie in the front room I can go upstairs and resume from that place etc.

    Now I have a 50" LG (forgot the model) which is 2 years old, was pretty much the best tv at the time.

    Then a Onkyo TX-SR607 with a set of Kef KHT 1005.2 which is full DTS HD enabled which sound great with the revo using DTS rips.
    Digital-Forums TeamSpeak3 Server

    I built a high end HTPC (i7, big ass Antec case that matches my Onkyo 905 amp) connected to Monitor Audio Silver 5.1. Win 7 with XBMC and sickbeard is brilliant.
    The pc has a couple of 2TB hard disks and an SSD in there at the moment with room for 3 or 4 more. It's virtually silent. My mate pissed about with a bunch of WD live type boxes and they are just not flexible enough.
    I'm even thinking of putting in a sat card and turning my pc into a pvr as well now I've ditched Sky.

    Any Q's pop them up here.

    If your installing Maraschino in Windows use this guide.

    http://htpc.ictcsc.net/wiki/index.php/MaraschinoWindows

    It needs a few 'easy to setup' dependencies.
    All it really is, is a flask application running from within a CherryPY web server.

    Indeed Maraschino IS Eden compatible and now also working towards making it Frodo.
    It would not work with Dharma as the JSON Version is incorrect.

    I'm a contributor for Maraschino, I am heavily involved with the Weather & Upcoming RSS Feed modules, but I'm nowhere near as advanced in programming as the other fellas. I generally do the styling for it. Hence why I spam the crap out of that thread.

    There is also a brand new feature about to be added that will search NZBMatrix and give you the option to Add 2 Sab from it. Can be seen in action here. It's still a work in progress, but will also include NewzNab servers.
