yes but replace XBMC with Plex. Honestly its just a lot easier to; use/setup/support on IOS devices. I would look at unraid as well. I cant explain how good this soft is.

I was a big XBMC fan but Plex has overtaken it for me, as much as I enjoy tinkering this just works and is pretty much my whole house and family's viewing. My library is shared with a lot of family who stream to their devices. Some features need plex pass, they change all the time though and is well worth it. The only bug I have is it isn't natively written to run as a service on windows but I just lock my home server.
To get my content flawlessly and easily when working away, it's perfect.

    It works with Unraid!

Update: It also has automatic sub titles! That is a HUGE bonus! Has XBMC got this?

I have all those running on the same box, plex just scans for changes so when any of those dump something in the relevant folder it picks it up almost instantly

Get unraid all services run fine on it. The support for it is overwhelming, plenty of guides and tuts.

The reason why its so good is that each disk is treated just like any other disk. When a file is copied to the server its not split its simply placed on the hard drive with the most free space.

    Benefits;
only one disk needs to be spun up (the one with the file on it)
If 2 of 3 drives fail, you can still access the remaining files on the 3rd disk
Parity is kept so all data drives can be rebuilt from the 1 parity drive.

Cache drive is kept (I keep mines spun up all the time). When a new tv show/movie is downloaded it gets put on the cache drive so my main disks stay spun down. End of the month all the content that was downloaded gets moved to my main disks and a parity is created.

All services such as sab/plex are also installed on the cache drive.

does plex run on the revo in the same way that xbmcbuntu does? I'd like to give it a try but to be honest, I'm so green with linux, if its requires much more than a few mouse clicks to set up I'd rather stay with tried n tested xbmc.

Plex has little or no support for a Linux frontend yet. It's the only reason I havent tried it out yet.
Clients need to be running Windows, a MAC, iOS or Android.

Linux frontend is in the pipline though.I prefer how fluid Linux is rather than reverting back to Windows. Feel's like a step back in time for me now.

Put simply yes. Here's a photo of the web interface (Using a PC web browser)
    plex1.jpg
which incidentally I can use from my office desk and watch films and TV shows

The Roku interface is a scroll left right affair. There is a full blown PC client that even plays the movie or tv shows soundtrack in the background whilst browsing. My LG TV has a nice interface to it as well.

It automatically scans and downloads artwork. I can't remember if it's default or not but when you go into a TV series it will do screen grabs from each episode as well as give you a full synopsis.

All this - pretty much out of the box makes it a winner for me.

I'm running mine on a HP Microserver that uses Ubuntu as the OS but I have also in the past run it on SBS2008, Windows 7 and Windows XP. All pretty much the same. Windows is easier to setup for a beginner.

You can easily change the artwork from a selection that Plex finds or upload etc. Or you can use a screen grab from the movie itself.

Ah yes - I see it now. There's nothing there right now but maybe a feature request could get that sort of thing added. You can always just setup a 3D and 2D section for movies.

Looks nice but I think I'll stick with xbmc, I don't really need anything more than xbmc delivers but it's good to see competition.
