I have 9mbps downstream at the moment and regularly have 2 xboxes on the go, VPN to work on two laptops, ipad, iphone, android phone, streaming netflix and it never misses a beat. If you need more than 8 mbps you are either doing something wrong or with a shit ISP imo. I hear from more and more people that $ky's broadband sucks. I pay a bit more than normal for my BeThere connection but it's awesome and from time to time it will give me 15mbps to the exchange (Depending on what side of bed I get out of it would seem) but I have no complaints whatsover with them and I properly cane it.

BT's fttc\ftth rollout is expected to take up to at least 2014, I've been waiting for 2 years thor our exchange to be done and thankfully it's supposed to be done this year (of course it's not just the exchange as cabinets need to be fitted as well).

Use www.samknows.com to do an exchange search to see when your local exchange will be upgraded.

I have seen new cabinets spring up round here over the last few weeks so looks like they are kicking on for a June launch as per the checker.

FYI if you spot one of these then Fibre is on its way

Sky 'promised' me between 10 and 20 meg when I signed up. I wasn't expecting the top end of that number knowing how far I am from the exchange, but the most I've had is 5.5 meg. Lying fuckers. And no date from sky or bt to get fibre in my area.

Now my year is up I'm off back to Virgin. At least with their doubled speeds and relaxed cap you'll end up being the same speed as before the upgrade lol

I showed an interest in this about a year ago, but still no joy for me in my area yet either.
I reckon it'll be a while before this is available to most customers.

My area already has Virginmedia, but no BT Infinity or Sky yet.

does anyone know how the wiring works for fibre in the house. I currently have a 1 metre run from my master socket to a room i have run a 4core solid cat5 cable but apparently the BT installers have to install the new router on the master socket.

I have had infinity for the last 7 months and get 38mb down and 9mb up, Never had a single problem in all that time cheaper than virgin as i sacked them for there traffic shaping at peak times this is one thing BT do not do if you opt for Option2 unlimited, infact have been that impressed just signed in for another 18months and have been told to expect there Max 78mb down and 19mb up all for £26 a month so cheaper than virgin.

As for your question BT change the master socket for a new one with integrated modem socket you then get a separate BT Infinity modem which plugs into the BT line and also there latest V3 Wireless router which you can have anywhere as this attaches to the modem via Cat5e.

    Thanks to digi247

I've signed up, for 3 quid a week over the normal $ky broadband I think it's a no brainer really. Just hope they up it to 80/20 after not too long!

I didn't get a reply from that either and the normal customer service number know nothing, I will check when I get home but I'm sure 08442410104 is the direct number for fibre optic :-)
