Help Acer Aspire One USB recovery?

Hi, I have been asked if I can sort out a couple of Aspire Happy2 netbooks, the first boots but only has the recycle bin and cannot connect to anything the other goes to windows boot manager and says it cannot communicate with a device connected.

I assume if I create a USB recovery I will have the best chance? Or is there a better way of sorting them out?

    Many thanks

Depends on what you mean by 'better way of sorting them out'.

I personally would create my own Windows 7 Boot USB rather than installing the Acer crap that gets pre-loaded and slows it down from the off.
Installing Windows 7 (assuming they have W7 keys underneath) would be the better option. Then installing on the AV, Malware and whatever else after.

Netbooks are notoriously slow anyway (Atom's + 1Gb RAM + Windows 7) and the usual reason they get corrupt as you explain is users getting fed up waiting and power them off when they are still busy breaking files in the Windows directory.

If your doing it 'as a favour' just use the recovery CD, create a USB Boot drive and be done with it.

I always give the option of Ubuntu to Netbook users if they use them as 'Facebook Machines', some go with it, most don't.
It is a lot quicker, less bloat, less hassle, no AV.

    Just my 2p's worth.

    Thanks to DejaVu

Thanks for that, they both have the Windows keys but neither have the recovery CD, can you get the windows recovery from MS if you have the keys? Cheers
