iphone 3gs stuck on apple logo

Tried to restore the phone but when it gets to the apple logo with the progression bar u hear the pc sound as though i have unplugged the cable, you know the usb plugged in/out sound then ii comes up with a error 28 code.?

Any help please, tried dif iphone cables incase it was that.

no could try lappy, just going to try a dif image incase thats the issue.

If you haven't tried already, it might be worth deactivating your firewall and antivirus, then giving it another go.

Is it jailbroken?

Might require a tethered boot if its jailbroken. Are you trying to restore it? Could use DFU mode for that.

wasn't jailbroken lads, although saying that I don't know the history of the phone, it was on 5.1 when I got it.

edit:
If I try restoring to an earlier firmware version how far back can I try without it messing up the baseband?

oh it's now giving error 29 all the time when its 3/4 way through restoring :S fs lol

ok read around some more, and it would seem an option is to use 3rd party software to install the firmware.
Any clues which allows this ?

I had similar problems with my ipod touch last week, and an ipad today - have encountered about 6 different errors trying to restore.

For products that should 'just work' there sure are a lot of error codes. I hate apple stuff.

well ive fooked it off now, removed mobo to reset bootrom, removed reinstalled itunes, tried a dif pc dif official images still gives error 29 must be an hardwear fault, scambay it goes lol.

what model battery is it ? check the writing on the battery
also is any liquid or crap on the dock connector pins

You can't downgrade without SHSH blobs. If possible try another cable and PC/Mac, check the HOSTS file does not contain apple entries, try pwned DFU mode. I think the new Redsn0w allows firmware restores but it's a brand new feature so I haven't used it.

I had this.. Only thing that would sort it was a custom rom flash. From dfu.
