    Info Satellite Office

    Hi all,

Guys have just been informed that I need to look into ways of linking a possible new satellite office to our main office, which in this case is just a few doors down from our main office. So far I am looking at a possible IR connection, although IR is new to me and I am not sure it is reliable enough. My next option would be a wireless link between the two offices but again costs are likley to be high, as are leased lines.

Not too sure about bondedDSL, so my question is have any of you guys installed / setup a remote satellite office and if so what did you use and how is the connection.

    Thanks
    DTM

If you can, run a cat 5e cable, it will be the best link.

Otherwise if you have to have an internet connection to link through, then you need to start reading about vpns. Lower end vpn servers will fail miserably to live up to rated throughputs.

Bonded adsl is only offered by a few providers - since bt upgraded to juniper kit mlppp is no longer an option.

If you are going with adsl, may be worth using annex m to reduce download speed and increase upload speed.

If bandwidth is a concern, I would look into bt infinity or fibre optic services - I can highly recommend the fibre service by exponential e.

    Thanks to Over Carl

Forgot to add, depending on available bandwidth, the number of pc's at the satellite office (and depending on your main branch setup and importance of satelitte office), a read only domain controller could be useful - lets the local client pc's use the local domain controller rather than the one over the vpn.

If they are just a few doors away from each other then ...

    1 - bit of CAT5
    2 - Wireless bridge
