Samsung Galaxy S3 whos getting one?

I've made a discovery, since I'm a tinkerer, that in mine there are only 3 cores available for the system to use.

Is it the same for everybody ? System panel actually shows the core greyed out.

edit... seems i was being a little hasty. loaded up something cpu intensive and suddenly all 4 burst into life. backed it off and 2 were greyed out. exactly as it should be i suppose !

Funny thing is I only ordered the phone Sunday afternoon and was told i'd have to wait three week's before any sort of chance of getting a Pebble blue one on o2,24 hour's later it's in my hand!

Just been watching a few videos on YouTube and now got that yearning only gadget heads get!

Quick question - what's the ringtone/text tone volume like? My biggest problem with my iPhone is I never hear it in my pocket whatever tones I use. Causes me no end of problems. That said, I'm not sure this beast will fit in my pocket!

Belial's opinion of the camera worries me too.

I am expecting my Orange S3 to be packed with bloat ware... The first think I'm going to do is custom rom.. Ive been running custom roms on my Desire Hd now for 2 years plus and its certainly made a difference to my usage/enjoyment of the device.

There shoudl be some pretty flash Rom's comming out given the performance of the phone.

Whould love to know if you get a decent rom.

I have just looked through XDA and haven't seen any ROMS that catch my eye.

Anyone have any decent custom Roms they are using? Are there any based on stock ICS, or CM9?

I thought this iteration if touchwiz was the best yet, but I've done what I always do. Start with stock ROM and modify it myself to what I want. I uninstall bloat, change launcher and tweak it at a system level. Much better doing that than using what someone else thinks you want, and you learn more too.

That sounds very interesting - do you have any links to any guides that could be used to help an android noob figure this out by any chance?

Umm, it depends what you want to do, I usually find something that I want to change then work out from searching how to do it.

A few examples
1. learn how to use Odin
2. always start with root access, Chainfire does a combined root/cwm recovery image that you can flash with odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1695238
3. always take cwm backups before making any system changes <--- this is the most important thing here
4. not using touchwiz is easy, just install another launcher
5. getting rid of touchwiz completely (if you want to) requires removal of the apps/files with a root tool of some kind such as root uninstaller pro. There are lists around of apps that are safe to remove http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1634624
6. get a root filesystem explorer (I use root explorer) and learn the filesystem architecture.
7. Learn the location and contents of build.prop especially and read up on tweaks you can make in there.
8. Replace the kernel with a custom one. A really good one is Siyah kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1709686 but you can also compile your own from source, which I did for sgs2.

etc, etc.

A search of the sgs3 section of xda developers usually turns up something.

If there's anything specific you want pointers on, let me know and I'll try to help

I'm not gonna go into to much detail to avoid a thread hijack but I have a different device which has some items from the stock Android release missing and crap added on. My first ambition is to create a complete "stock" rom with no branding junk, then start playing from there - info given looks like just what I was after.

Anyone using the Samsung GS3 toolkit. It's very good. Makes rooting a piece of piss. Very happy with all my customisations now.

Anyone know how to change the apps on the lockscreen? Edit - Got it now.

I had a play with Apex launcher a couple of days ago but for me it's still a bit 'new' and has too many little quirks to be a solid daily driver. I consistently go back to LauncherPro plus and set it to display 7 rows, 6 columns which is perfect for me. Siyah kernel is an absolute peach. Lightning fast performance and amazing battery life. I currently have 64% remaining 24 hours after taking it off charge, with a fair amount of twitter/web/calls/texts

I am not 100% sure what they do. I have just seem them incorporated into people's ROMs.

I didn't like Apex launcher. I am using Holo. I like it. I also have a 7 icon dock. The size of this phone allows that.
