WhatsApp Data retrieval

Hi Guys,

Ive managed to interigate an Iphone backup, and can capture current chats in WhatsApp from the backup.

There are a fair few files to trawl through, so thought I would ask if anyone is aware of a way to interigate either the backup, or the device (Iphone 4) for any deleted WhatsApp messages?

Basicaly I think the missus is up to no good and need to find out asap.

Theres beers in it for anyone who can help me out...

I think there will be a cache somewhere in the apps file system for the messages. Deleted ones tho I would say would be deleted permanently.

Ifunbox is the tool of choice for accessing the iPhone file system. But phone needs to be jailbroken IIRC.

Ive got the ChatStorage.sqlite open to read current messages no problem from the backup. Still cant seem to see any cache for other stuff tho.


Phone isnt jailbroken.

Just wish i got my hands on the phone 48 hours ago!

How IT savvy is she?

Maybe, if you know the contact she is using in WhatsApp, change the contacts number for yours and when she uses whatsapp to talk to him, she will in fact be talking to you.

in addition to that you would also need to change your display name in settings, otherwise changing the number wont make a difference as your usernam will show as your own as opposed to the other person.

can you not get hold of phone for minute or so and you can email the chat to yourself

Thanks guys, Im pretty sure she would pick up on this, espacially as she deleted his number from the phone last night in front of me.

and some of the messages that I have seen on the phone have also been deleted.

Would the icloud backup hold them? How would I access hers?

Well you just go to www.icloud.com and login with her AppleID and password. Basically the email address she uses for apple and itunes etc, and the password will be the same as the one it asks for when you download apps or updates.

thats exactly how I got hold of the chats I have access too - unfortunatly I need the preceeding ones that had been deleted to confirm a few things.

Managed to sign in, but not much on there - I know she or she says she backs everything upto the cloud... is it possible to view backed up cloud data from the cloud website?

Think he's already done that or something similar.

He's trying to get back deleted messages. Which I don't think is possible, unless they can be retrieved from an older backup or icloud storage maybe.

Ive just set my Ipad off, syncing her Icloud - lets see what I get from that.

Latest Itunes / iphone backup was done this morning by me - thats where ive been getting info from. Im convinced a cache will be in there somewhere.

Even if someone knows of the location of what I need on the actual Iphone, im more than happy to get the iphone, and connect it to the laptop to interigate... the mood im in, she aint likely to stop me....!!! lol
