Alot of varying amounts there. I too am looking around. 10 yrs NCB on a crappy Hyundia F2 Evo (Coupe with different interior basically), looking at just shy of £300

Having said that, it must be where you live as well. I got a quote to get an R32 and it was only £100 more and not from a specialist, yet this is cheaper than some of teh posts above for normal cars.

Always Fully Comp and unlimited mileage as well as the missus being named at some 6 years younger.

    Cheers.....Q

i lost my ncb when i stopped driving for 2 years (thought i had 3 before i lost them)
my quotes now for any basic car ie a fiesta 1.2 is £4500 and upwards.

my van i use costs me 1200 a year now the biggest factor in these prices are my postcode. using any non liverpool postcode i can get the fiesta for under 400
so having a good safe postcode helps no end. btw im 41 not 18 as my quotes suggest.

Premiums in the UK are crazy. I got the BMW 116i insured this year for 400EUR, about 315GBP, This is with Zero no claims as I had a 2,500 EUR claim the year earlier on my previous car.

This is fully comp, with 180EUR excess and roadside recovery on a car valued at 10,000EUR.

    HOLY CRAP!

I just decided to get another quote, from all the same places/companies using by dad's address.
From the very cheapest @ £409 with Clubcard discount, I just got a quote coming in at £272 (+£200 Excess).

    Unbelievable.
Guess I'm moving back in to my dad's place this year!

Best make sure the car and driving licence are registered to that address then as they accept what you say then check it's all correct once you make a claim, not sure if they check the electoral register but I would think they do if it means avoiding paying out.

I wouldn't mind, but he lives less than 2 miles from me!
Definitely worth checking different places to register your car at first.

I think it has got to the stage where the government should step in and put a maximum on what insurance companies can charge. Also to stop insurance companies charging you more because you made a claim against another driver. If it wasn't your fault why should you be punished. I don't bother with paying extra for protected no claims because you get stung if you make a claim anyway - even if it wasn't your fault. In my opinion the insurance companies are out of control and very unfair to safe decent drivers. Extra regulation of the insurance companies is well overdue. (">

My insurance went up £300 a year when I moved 7 miles up the road closer to Glasgow.

Last month my partner bumped the car (minor) in a car park - the third party was claiming for a scuffed bumper even though I offered to pay for the repairs and I had my insurance call me three times to ensure I didn't get injured and wanted to claim for it - it's almost as if they are pushing for people to claim for silly things like this.

Bloke at work has just claimed 20k for a 'back injury' in a crash.

I like him. But what a cunt. Not to mention he is on 100k anyway, and drives a cheap golf and dresses like a Romanian gypsy on a dress down day.

He... and those like him... is why our insurance is so steep.

Swinton were CUNTS with me. I got a new car and asked them to move over the policy from a Vauxhall Zhafira 2.0 turbo diesel to a 1.7 diesel and they wanted 300 more. I had 5 months left on the policy. i ended up going elsewhere useing compare the meerkat. got a new toy for my kids and alot more cheaper. Swintons policy is that you are tied into their contract and still have to pay them the monthly payments till you have finished your policy. It was still cheaper to take out a new one for 12 months. SET of COONTS and i wouldnt use swinto again. their claim to fame is you should have read the T&C

    I can agree with that.
Our home insurance was with them last year.
After the last payment was taken, they took another payment for the following month. When I rang them asking WTF, it was the deposit for next years policy. Something they do automatically. If I didn't check my account regularly I'd never have known.
And yes, it is in the small print!

He... and those like him... is why our insurance is so steep.
I disagree. The reason our insurance is so steep is because the insurance companies encourage people to claim for injury and wont easily take no for an answer. Even when told that everything is ok and it was the most minor of accidents with only a few scratches on the bumper they still pass on your details to an injury claim company.

I had an accident about three years ago when a white van man cut across my path to exit a roundabout. The cunt didn't stop. After a short stop on the roundabout I went around the roundabout and followed him. Only just saw him go off on a sliproad and park behind some trees to examine his damage. He argued that he wasn't to blame and the next day I get a call from my insurance company saying he was claiming against me for pulling out onto the roundabout and into the side of his van.

Because he was a lying cunt I had no choice but to 'provide' a witness to the accident, after putting an add in the local paper of course. When he saw the witness statement he conceded it was his fault after all. Didn't feel comfortable doing it but had no choice other than to play him at his own game. The car was a 2.0l sierra in superb condition. Was valued by the insurance company at £200 which was well below what it was really worth. My excess was £200 so if I hadn't shown he was lying I would have had nothing, plus I would have lost my no claims as well. I did get £2000 injury payment but it was genuine. I will be honest and tell you that I told my girlfriend to claim against him for injury but she wouldn't do so although she was continually pestered by injury claim companies to do so.

The only reason I wanted her to claim is because he was prepared to lie which would have cost me a fair bit in the loss of my car and the extra insurance I would have to pay next time. I consider myself to be a honest person but sometimes when someone tries to shit on you, you have to balance it up.

I had someone claim against me twenty years ago and all I did was tap the back of their Lada with my Granada. Only damage was my nearside headlamp. When I asked the woman driver if she was ok she said everything was fine and that she didn't know I had hit her until I knocked her window to tell her. Few days later I get a letter about a claim against me and I see her walking around with a collar around her neck. Should have seen it coming because I used to work with her husband and he was always on about some claim or other he had going against someone.

So is it any wonder that people make false claims. The other driver will sometimes try and shit on you by saying it was your fault even when it isn't, and you can be 95% sure that if an accident is your fault the other driver will make a claim against you regardless of whether he/she is genuinely injured or not. Because the injury claim companies will make it sound so easy and tell them that everybody does it, so it's ok.

Until the insurance companies stop encouraging false claims and clamp down on them by employing doctors to disprove the injury instead of the other way around, then the false claims will continue. And if you are honest and don't claim, you will be the looser because you can be sure as hell that someone will claim against you if it was your fault, or if they can make it look as if it was your fault. It's wrong, but unfortunately that's what happens when the greed of the claim culture companies takes over because of inadequate regulation. (">

I used to have a Golf. I wasn't being negative. I just meant that he is running a 1.4 Golf. The costs are very small compared to his wage and his previous cars.

i believe often if paying instalments, the insurance company actually gets a loan out on your behalf to pay the policy as a lump sum. Is nice for the insurance company to know they get they cash straight up with no risk to them, and it can be nice for a customer who for example forgets to pay the monthly renewal for a day or two and ends up with their car being written off just as they were driving to pay the bill.

Check policy details though as different companies will have different policies.

I've seen t&c's stating after a crash you must not admit liability. I'm guessing the first firm that came out with that thought they were well clever but it doesn't work when everyone is doing the same.

Thought I'd give this thread a bit of a revival. Things might be looking up. I've just had my renewal through and it was £140/year CHEAPER!!!

Did a quick comparethemarket and got it it just over £200 cheaper this year. That's Fully Comp, NCB Protected, Legal, Personal Injury. Voluntary Excess of £200, compulsory excess of £200 (£50 less than my previous years excess), windscreen cover, personal belongings etc. etc.

Not sure if this is anything to do with the fact women no longer get cheaper insurance than men or if it's part of investigations that were supposedly being carried out but to get a £200 drop is pretty fking good. Admittedly, when I've seen and heard many others talk about how theirs has doubled or gone up a few hundred, mine has only ever gone up maybe £10 or £15 but year... massive drop this year. If indeed it is due to the now equal treatment of men and women for insurance, then I'm all for equality and women fought for it back in the day so cheers for that
