Just how wank is wi-fi?

what speeds should I expect using a USB wifi receiver on my PC, connecting to router that's not more than 2 metre away, in the same room. My current connection is 4meg down, 10meg up, shouldnt wifi handle that with ease?

Yep, any type of wifi should handle that (I'm guessing you mean 10 down, 4 up?)

If you have an android phone, download wifi analyser - it shows you how what channels other devices around you are using so you can try and find a channel that isn't being used by anyone else near you.

Over carl, its 4 down, 10 up at the mo, normal for cable in my area for some reason. I can upgrade to 10 both ways, which I will do now I know its not a waste of time

I've had some 54mbps dongles that were next to useless, kept losing signal etc etc.

I've got a netgear 'n' dongle now that never skips a beat.
