    Default Keeps dropping DNS

    Hi
myself and my son use the internet/skype at the same time in different rooms in the house, we are both hard wire connected to a Draytek 2820. At least 4-5 times per day, usually at key times the DNS fails - we stay online and can use chat but all www addies fail and online games go offline - cured 100% by reboot of router. ADSL ISP says it must be router, so tried Belkin Vision and same thing. I have done a fresh instal of WIN7 on my pc, but my son has various online games through steam etc.
Can any body give me some ideas or tips how to resolve.

Change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and see if it keeps happening? Also which ISP do you use?

Change primary to 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 8.8.4.4 to use Googles DNS:

Router would produce more stable results (all devices on the network would use that DNS unless manually over ridden) but you could do it on individual PCs if you wanted to.

    Hi
ok, this did not solve, does this mean issue is Router? it seems to be when both my son and I are using skype at same time, or maybe this is co-incedence. Router was expensive and only about a year old.

No. Ask them to provide a router to prove its not their end. If they cant do that then insist that they send an engineer round with kit to prove its not their end. You've done your part by testing with 2 different types of kit + dns.

Im assuming you've already tried changing the filters ?

    Default Keeps dropping DNS

A filter is a passive piece of electronics . No need to change every 12 months .

This happened to me on a clients 2830 DSL light was solid, just wouldn't resolve anything via DNS a reboot fixed it for a day or so. Complained to BT blaming them for the fault turns out something had changed on the router and it wasn't me who changed it! Make sure that in Multi PVC's you only have 1 channel with the correct VPI & VCI. This fixed it for me. Hope this helps!

On both pc's try doing a tracert when the problem occurs again and see where it gets stuck, this might indicate where the problem is.

    Just an idea.

    Hi
    thanks m8
I use enta reseller and I got at VPI 0 and VCI 38 PPPoA modulation multimode but on the MPoA (RFC1483/2684) page in router (whatever that is) it shows DSL modem settings Multi - PVC channel - Channel 2 and Encapsulation 1483 bridged IP LLC VPI 0 VCI 101 but this has a dot in the Disabled bit.

Afaik, Be and Sky are the only UK ADSL providers who use MPoA / RFC1483. I believe Sky haven't fully transitioned to MPoA yet so still also allow PPPoA connections.
