i've ran XBMC 11 on a revo through Windows 7, could stream and play 1080p stuff, as far as i remember i didnt have to do much messing about with the settings either
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
Xbmcbuntu is the best method, depends of you need to use windows 7 for anything else though. Xbmcbuntu has a cut down Ubuntu desktop with web browser etc. so does the job for me.
I'd go full blown Ubuntu then install XBMC from repo's.
Thats how I have all my Media PC's setup.

ive got the exact same setup as you matey, went for a win7 OS in the end as I want the setup to do other things. each to their own I guess :- )
If you want to run apache based tools like sabnzbd etc then Ubuntu is a better choice than Windows.
It just runs better, it's as simple as that.

I ended up with Windows 7 on my R3600 just for the easy life. Tried Ubuntu and xbmc from an sd card but didn't have time to google (or ask tombott) everytime I wanted to do something.

not had any problems running sabnzbd on my win7 revo, runs flawlessly. Its all down to user preference in the end. Im more comfortable with a windows based system, but saying that - I was more comfortable with torrents until I tried usenet, now I dont use torrents anymore!
I have the r3600.
I wanted it more for a media player than a PC, but did want to still occasionally use it as a PC.
So given its primary function, I wanted it booting into XBMC as quickly as possible, with no windows nonsense. I opted to dual boot it with xbmcbuntu and windows 7. Untouched, it gives the boot option for a few seconds, then by default goes to xbmcbuntu. If I want windows, I either touch the remote control or the bluetooth keyboard and it can be selected.
Just so you know, XBMCbuntu is a wizard setup and works out the box. No need to google or ask anyone anything But a working setup is a working setup. Mine is for media only and i want it up and running asap so a SSD with XBMCbuntu is perfect
I had XBMClive and couldn't do everything I wanted to. I also had to read a tutorial before I attempted the simple things like pairing a Bluetooth keyboard or setting up the wireless card. Because I am not good with linux. Therefore I put on windows 7 and stuck the windows xbmc on it. Much better. All runs great and I don't struggle to understand how to do the simple things.
