    Question Semtex Extreme - Thoughts?

    Hi,

I've always been massively against these types of things, however a guy in the office is swearing by them but I think it could just be wishful thinking on his part.

    Breakdown of the content;

I was triple dubious once I saw jodie marsh is the one touting them!

On the same note, is there any supplement worth taking along side going to the gym 2-3 times a week that could aid weight loss?

I'm very suspect about all these items that are jacked full of caffeine etc.

    Cheers.

    DNP AND WEIGHT LOSS

    Aug 26, 2011 | By Camira Bailey

The synthetic chemical 2,4-dinitrophenol, or DNP, is most commonly used as a pesticide. Because it increases metabolism greatly, it also has been used throughout history as a weight loss aid, first legally and now illicitly. While it is true that DNP can significantly enhance your weight loss efforts, the extremely high risk of severe side effects, including death, make its use for this purpose a very bad idea.

    HISTORY

The thermogenic effects of DNP were first noted in 1885, but it was researchers at Stanford University who first used DNP as a weight loss aid in the 1920s. As a result, DNP became a popular weight loss drug and was used until 1938, when it was banned by the Food and Drug Administration due to the number of toxic effects and deaths associated with its use. It was and is still used in the agricultural industry to kill fungi, and occasional toxicity has been seen in workers exposed to it. Recently, the illicit use of DNP for weight loss purposes has become more popular, especially among bodybuilders. As a result, fatalities associated with DNP use are again on the rise

    DNP AND WEIGHT LOSS

DNP causes weight loss by greatly increasing your metabolic rate, causing an increase of up to 95 percent in some people, according to a case report published in the April 2009 issue of "British Journal of Anaesthesia." This is because it interferes with your body's ability to produce adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. ATP provides your body with energy. When this deficiency occurs, your body must increase its metabolic rate and burn more fat to meet energy demands. This results in excessive weight and fat loss over a short time.

    SIDE EFFECTS

The main side effect of DNP use is an elevation in body temperature and sweating. This is due to the large amount of heat that is produced during the DNP's interference with the body's ATP production. The elevation in body temperature can be quite severe, reaching up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit in fatal cases, according to a case report published in the April 2006 issue of "Journal of Analytical Toxicology." Other side effects include nausea and vomiting, headaches and dizziness. In severe cases, rapid heart and respiration rate, kidney failure, and death may occur.

    DEATH

DNP has a very small margin of error when it comes to dosing, which makes the risk of severe illness and death high. As of now, over 60 published deaths due to DNP toxicity have been noted, according to a review that will be published in the September 2011 issue of "Journal of Medical Toxicology." Death most often results from a fatal increase in body temperature, but can also be caused by heart arrhythmia, cardiac arrest or multi-system organ failure. DNP's oral lethal dose is 1 g to 3 g in an average healthy adult. People have died from as little as 600 mg per day, taken over several days. Due to the high risk of death, you should not take DNP.

    lol...

I wouldn't take any of them. Patience and a healthy diet is the only way.

    Thanks to Geko
