Advice Who has boiler cover, and who with?

I bought a house recently and I can't decide on what to do regarding boiler cover. When I owned in the past I had a new boiler fitted and had the British Gas cover which was around £15 a month. There was no call out charge with this and I was happy with it. They now charge £10 a month but its £99 excess for each fault which seems a bit much so i'm not sure what to do.

    1. Don't bother as its a waste of money.
    2. Take it out with another company such as homeserve
    3. Take it out with British Gas as £99 is better than getting quotes for potentially more

The boiler was recently serviced by Homeserve however i've read bad things about them as they use local contractors and you might be waiting ages for parts etc, where British Gas have their own engineers.

Tempted to leave it but knowing my luck it'll blow up next week.

    Homeserve are shit. Really shit.

British Gas are far far better. Worth checking their website. I thought there were two types of cover, 1 with excess and 1 without but I might be wrong.

I have British gas and they have replaced the main board in mine now 2 years on the trot.. they're out the same day you call them and they're spot on every time. Free yearly service is pretty good too. Certainly had my moneys worth!

I agree.. with British gas you know you just pay £50 for any repair (obviously worth checking it's not an easily replaceable sensor or something that would cost a lot less) and even a replacement boiler would only be £50.. also you get the annual safety check with a certificate to prove it..
I have been very happy to stay with them..

As a landlord I use British Gas to cover my boilers, drains, plumbing, electricals, central heating the lot. Never had any issues.

I have also just moved and the boiler is about 6 years old.
Quote is £15.50 for the £50 Excess option which I think is decent, especially with a Service.

Just need to convince the wife now.

British Gas all the way. Switched to Homeserve and they were utter shite. Nearly left us over Christmas with no Boiler. Had to do some proper shouting to get it sorted. British Gas have the men on the ground who know what they're doing.

Sounds like a no brainer then, i've just signed up with British Gas for £18 a month with zero excess. Would rather pay more and have them out for every little fault than have to pay the £99 excess. Thanks for the feedback guys

we used to have british gas, who repaired the boiler on lot of occasions. but it ended up at £22 a month. so ended up getting a new Worcester Bosch boiler fitted with 5 years parts and labour for £1400. its much more efficient , so cost less to run. doesn`t break down all the time and worked out at the same price per month over a 5 year period

i pay £16 per month with Eon. Been with them for several years and they have been brilliant when things went wrong. I have just renewed and they are offering 50% off for first 3 months or 25% for first 6 months - depends who you talk too!!

But some people say it's a waste of money - put the money in a savings account and if you need it it's there.

I have a Worcester Bosch boiler and they do their own cover. It's approximately £10 per month. 24 hour call out. And No excess involved. I have probably had about £750 worth of parts replaced through them including the main board. They also do a full service on the Boiler once a year. Best money I currently spend.
