Guns don't kill people rappers do, I'm a fucking rapper and I might kill you.
So my thoughts on my new setup will be this:
A 12tb [6x 2tb] UnRAID NAS Box with add-ons such as sickbeard etc
My Media Center will be reconfigured to run ubuntu + XBMC + any add-ons that are recommended
Hardware changes:
I'm thinking of using my spare my 60GB SSD for the OS drive and buying 2x 3tb drives to store content or can I link XBMC to the NAS?
The goal is for the NAS to download the content and (maybe) push it to the media center somehow?
And then for the NAS to do a weekly incremental backup of the media center (maybe) and my computer using the rsync application..
Or am I over complicating things?
there's no need for you nas to 'push' data anywhere, just share all the drives and stream it all to the xbmc device

Assuming you are using raid5 you will end up with abou 9.3tb of usable space

Kind of makes my media center case pointless but don't want to rebuild lol, I got an antec fusion v2
Would you use a large media center case (like mine) for this or would you completely get rid and downside to a Raspberry Pi or similar
I have no idea mine is still not working. Dejavu has been really helpful but still not working.
In answer to your question, I'd say yes as you could use the pi for other things.
Finally getting round to this now. NAS has unRAID installed & setup. Is this the best option for media centre still?

For XBMC (this is on NAS). Do I need to put the 720P & 1080P films in separate folders? E.g. Media > Films > 720P / (New Folder) 1080P. Or no need? Reason I ask is because I can't find everything I want in 1080P.
Should I still go with Ubuntu when all my media + downloading apps are on the NAS
