    Help cold room help

i have a type of outhouse on the back of my property, its attached to the house, and has a toilet, theres a front door type door to go in to the outhouse from my kitchen, and also a door on the toilet,

bascially this is always freezing, and im looking to make it warmer without adding radiator or electric heaters.

its brick, with no plaster etc, theres a few gaps around the door frame which i can silicon up, but will this help?

im going to attach some photos when i can so you can get the picture, but its so cold, as soon as you open the kitchen door to go in to the outhouse you just loose all the warmth as its sucked out

going to get some photos as this will describe the issue a bit better!

looking at this, it would appear the best soloution would be a pvc door, as this seals tight, but would be little expensive? i was thinking with a door, i could have a frosted pane of glass, which then would produce a little light and make it look a little more appealing?

If its and outhouse then the external walls will be a single skin wall.

If so I have just done this in my house, involves timber battons, Celotex, breathable membrane, plasterboard and a friendly Plasterer ;-)

Need to batton the walls and 400cm apart, cut the celotex to fit between these, apply the membrane, cover all in plasterboard and then get friendly plasterer to skim it for you. I used the 25mm Celotex as will be putting a radiator out htere aswell.

Also insulate the ceiling too ;-)

    Thanks to akimba

    ive attached photos above

also i take ive only got to do the one side of the wall, the outside wall.

im seriously thinking a upvc door now, as this will stop any rain/leaks and have a nice seal... typical council house, they do things backwards.

totally agree with akimba. although i dont have this problem our neighbour does with her porch, which is single skinned and is always freezing. her solution was to get a pvc door and thick carpets. still cold, but not as cold as it was

    Thanks to CallmeGoose

i shall get some prices, i can do the majority myself, apart from plastering, and the fitting of the pvc door, i should imangine if i looked at the local salvage yard, with my measurements i should be able to find a suitable door, just need to get it fitted then, not sure if this would make a big difference in price

ive just been thinking, i wouldnt need to have the wall plastered, as i can just line it with wallpaper, and just paint it? please correct me if im wrong, also i was thinking of batons up the wall, make a frame, pack that attic installation in to it and board it, and wallpaper it,

ive got to approach the council for the pvc door, the company i rang where like oooo no, cant touch it as its council. never know if i get the right person i might get a free pvc door replaced.

To get the best results, I agree with akimba - that's the proper job.

Replacing that wooden door is a must and seal up those gaps with Expanding Foam.
    Much better insulator than silicon.

    --edit
If you plasterboard it properly, you won't need to plaster it.
But plastering it will give you more insulation from the cold.
I boarded the ceiling in my place. Never skimmed it, just butted and sealed them and painted them white. You'd never know it's not skimmed.

The main thing is the celotex I got it for about £12 a sheet for the 25mm and looks like 2 or 3 sheets would do you. The membrane is the next important bit as will stop the wall sweating.

I would still skim the plasterboard as not only will it make it warmer but also will give a better finish, you must know someone who handy with a trowel as every man and his dog round my ways does plastering.

Where abouts in Wales are you.

my wall sweats now, looks like a brown colour, like a nicotine colour urrghhh.
only happens when the tumble dryer is on and the little window open.

there appears to be the outside wall, then the inner, and whatever in the middle, could it not be cheaper to have it drilled/insulated? or would i still have the problem?

im in south wales, abersychan pontypool, i honestly dont know anyone, ive lived a shelterd life lol

would i only need to do the one wall then, the outside inner wall?
