    Default Raised tattoo

3 years ago I had a large tribal tattoo done in Colombia (sterile needles etc), the tattoo artist didn't do a very good job and it hurt like hell. He had to go deep with the needles as my skin had trouble taking the ink. The tattoo covers the right of my chest, part of my upper arm and shoulder/shoulder blade area.

Needless to say I had the tattoo redone when I got home. Same again, hurt like hell, and my skin didn't take the ink well. 3 years later, I have noticed over the past few weeks that part of the tattoo, mostly the shoulder/shoulder blade area is slightly raised/bumpy.

Alarms bells are ringing in my head that this is skin cancer, but I have read online from various places that there is no evidence to prove tattoos cause cancer.

Going to visit my doctor to get advice, but anyone got any info?

    Cheers all

How raised and how big are the bumps? I have a mate who is a tattooist, a good one, who may be able to offer advice. Any pictures?

    Default Raised tattoo

Woke up this morning, and the tattoo isn't raised anymore. Hmmmmm, I'll keep an eye on it and try and get a picture if it happens again. It was definitely noticeable and not right, and it was only on the tattoo, not the surrounding skin.

If you could still get some advice off your friend for me that would be great. Really freaked me out last night!

This happens with my Celtic armband every now and again. Disappears the next day normally. Is the tattoo mainly one colour? One thing that used to affect one of my tattoos really badly was sunlight, if I was sunbathing I had to use a total sunblock on some of my tattoo - only some colours seems to be affected, weird.
How about a positive LSD story? Would you like to see a positive LSD story on the news to hear what's it all about, perhaps? Wouldn't that be interesting just once?

Yeah the tattoo is all black, becoming patchy now in some areas, but this is to be expected. Good to know it happens to other people too. Maybe I'm allergic to something I'm not aware of

My armband is black as well so maybe something about the pigment in the ink

Heres a photo of the tat when it was first done. It has been redone since. The area which is/was raised is the part on my shoulder

    pmsl.. Skinny cunt

I have a cover up that's a LOT of black. The bits my tat artist had to go Gung Ho on get raised occasionally. It gets a bit tender too. Soon dies down again though - I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Tattooed Freak knows his stuff. No doubt he'll be able to offer some advice when he sees this.

Its normal to get raised skin and itchiness over time. I get it with white ink, everyone is different and reacts differently.

Funny I find white ink more painful going in than any other.

I had a reaction to red ink once, can't recall the brand. 2 huge roses on my leg went badly wrong, got an infection and went to hospital. Horrendous experience.

I get this with mine on my leg when im out in the sun it gets sore and swells a fair bit but I also get just the outline of some on my arms raised as well even when I dont go out in the sun, sometimes just scratching it can cause it, I think its something like goosebumps only accentuated due to the trauma the skin went through as it was tattoo'd I wouldnt worry about it too much but if its playing on your mind nip to the doctors, your peace of mind is worth it if nothing else

My new artist is the nuts, 30 years experience. Re-worked them even with all the scar tissue, you would never know...
