Info Collapsed Comet Launches 'Massive' Sale

Electronics retailer Comet has announced a "massive stock liquidation" ahead of store closures as early as next week.
The sale, which began at 9am on Thursday, is only available in its 236 stores, with customers unable to buy products online.
The electrical chain said gift vouchers will be accepted on sale items, following the temporary suspension of the tokens over the weekend.
But it warned customers it will not offer refunds, and any items ordered before the company went into administration that have not been paid for will not be delivered.
Comet's administrators, Deloitte, are in the process of winding down the business following its collapse on Friday, which leaves 6,600 jobs hanging in the balance.
But rival Dixons - which owns Currys and PC World - postponed hiring 3,000 Christmas staff by a week to allow Comet staff to apply.
It said it was "amazed" by the number of Comet employees that had enquired about positions so far.
Deloitte has been attempting to find a buyer for the business, but reports suggest stores could start to be closed next week.
If the chain does collapse, it will become one of the biggest high street casualties since Woolworths in 2008.

There's a thread on HUKD. They're saying it's a waste of time. Most things are 10% off with a few up to 30% off...

I've read a few times though that there will be bigger discounts the start of next week as some stores will be closing and need to get rid of their stock...

Went earlier, "up to 10% off" some items, and up to 20% off other bigger items.
    £2 off a £20 kettle - hardly a sale!!!
80% of people leaving were empty handed - no surprise there!

Reminds me of the woolworths 'sale' bullshit, that was a laughable 10% off if i remember right.

Just been in my local comet and as above the cuts are a joke. I price checked a few items online and even at the reduced discount they could be found cheaper. Maybe they'll have some real bargains closer to D-Day whenever that is.

I wonder if this could be a key reason for them failing....

Reminds me a few years ago when one of the big leather sofa chain stores ended up in administration I said to my mum I would get a 3 piece suite. Went down there and we saw one we loved at a great price except we were set on a particular colour. Found one in those colours in the same shop at twice the price (not discounted). We asked the staff to sort it out and they started getting all arsey like we were trying to rip them off and they didn't need our business so we bought elsewhere.

even though they are in admin, dont they still have to abide by uk trading laws so saying "we will NOT offer refunds" could be illegal under the law, someone correct me if im wrong.

refunds / problems / warranty are to be sorted direct with the actual brand company, so if you bought a hotpoint cooker from comet, and it fooks up in 6 months you have to go direct to hotpoint, couldnt quite get the right words out sorry.

also any products bought online, youve lost out, you will not get your goods or a refund, there was signs all over the shop, just printed on a4 peices of paper

yet i was told there still active untill xmas eve... or so theyve been told

I for one will not be supporting these cnuts of a company, i feel for the staff and the customers that will lose out over this. it stinks. even if they had a 75% sale i would not support them. sadly i know thousands of other will do but thats their choice.

we were in the market a couple of months ago for a new tv, we did go into comet but i was mindful of the problems and the tv i wanted was not in stock in shop so i walked away. no way would i be handing my money over to them. i ended up getting it from currys which had the tv in stock

tried to haggle in currys for my cooker, blagged it saying i could get the cooker £80 cheaper, as i knew they coudlnt compare as comets website is not working, or ateast no shop anymore.

manager basically told me to fook off, said were not doing comet price matches, was worth the try, still got my cooker from them tho as half the ones in comet where return to manufacturer and had the most £20 knocked off.

wonder if currys will be the next to go down the line....
