I recently tried them and my Xbox didn't like them at all.. I proved it by bypassing them with a very long Cat 5 cable and then it was fine.
My advice is to see if someone can lend you a pair for testing before you shell out mate.

FYI mine were Devolo 500 MEG and cost over £100. I will no doubt find a use for them so i'm not too upset but now will be hardwiring a network through three rooms to sort it..

I always recommend the Solwise PIGGY AV500, they are gigabit ports, came out on top of all reviews at the time and are speedy as fcuk! I stream 1080p over my house with no issues.

    Default Powerline network plugs/adapters ??

Mine said they don't work in surge protected sockets, so I doubled up at the plug but even then there's supposed to be a possible reduction in speed based on the loading on the electrical socket. So I reckon that's something to bear in mind, they also sell power line adaptors with a plug through socket - I guess this would mean you can plug in a surge protected extension to the out socket on the power line adaptor.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

I've got 3 sets of the TPlink ones and they do a job, as mentioned they won't work through a multiplug and mine don't have a plug passthrough so do use up one of the wall outlets. Haven't used my 360 in a year and it won't connect to live but connected to XBlink ok using them.

    Yeah

TheDevolos have the pass through socket but state they should be the first socket if multiplugs follow them..

It was logistically impossible to place them at the first one as I have very few sockets.

The management program they came with showed a good connection at 240 Meg or so but the Xbox wouldn't co-operate nonetheless...

I use these http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent...69794-pdt.html and must say i have never had an issue with them.

I have my main router going in to the plug down stairs and then i have another router (access point) plugged in to the other one upstairs. Xbox runs fine with them and never misses a beat.

I never had a problem using my xbox's with homeplugs. I have moved to a cat5e cable solution now though after one of my homeplugs died.

That fact is pointed out in the installation instructions with mine. I guess old wiring equals noise which in turn equals packet loss and latency

I have 4 of the Ebuyer ones in my house, one at the router, one at my PC, one at my Daughters PC and one behind the TV for SKY, Xbox and WDTV Live, they all work great and never have any issues, the only issue you could have is if the Xbox is on a different ring main to the router but its unlikely.

As long as they're on the same consumer unit then the ring main shouldn't make a great deal of difference. I plugged all of mine in in the kitchen to pair everything up and they didn't show as max speed even there, the degradation from there to around the house hasn't been significant. Currently have 1 by switch, 1 behind TV going to old router for tv, sky + homeserver, 1 behind stereo, 1 behind other TV again in to an old router for 360+ps2, 1 in garage for CCTV and a spare sitting on my desk doing naff all. May go in to shed at some point with another router to extend wifi signal

You will loose speed if they are plugged into extension leads. Also all 200mp plugs only have 100mbit port so if you got a 120mb vm connection its pointless buying them. Get 500mb ones as they come with a gig port and are future proof.

Hope it's ok to piggy back on this thread.

I'm getting 3 of the solwise piggy 500mbs plugs for a family member who's just bought a big old house with very solid, very thick walls.

I'm sure somewhere there was a 'plug' that would also broadcast wifi too. Did i dream this or can you really get the homeplugs that act as wifi extenders?

I suppose an alternative would be to get a ddrwt router to act as an extender and hook that up to the homeplug.

    thanks

As you have discovered there are AIO devices but personally I use the AV500-PIGGY then attach a D-Link DIR-615 DD-WRT router and set DHCP forward to the router. Would b interested to hear about the range and reliability of those AIOs though mate.

Should be fitting them just before xmas, if all the other works is on schedule. Will let you know how they do speed /reliability wise.
