3gs unlocking

I have been doing a bit of reading around and it looks like I need to install ipad firmware to unlock my 3gs
Currently on 5.16.05, need to get to 6.0X, but only via ipad FW
Most places state I will lose GPS functionality, is this all that will be lost? and will it be fixable in the future?

Has been JB in the past, serial is xx944xxx so early enough to use ipad FW.

Anything I need to be aware of before I upgrade via iTunes?

You can now downgrade from iPad BB to re-enable GPS etc. as long as your phone is in the correct manufacturing period:

Use the latest Redsn0w instead of the version in the above post and make sure your phone is supported or you might brick it!

So, to make sure before I start, do I just upgrade vai iTunes to latest ios then use redsnow to add ipad FW 6.15.00, then downgrade to 5.13.04 after that?

Just want to make sure before I brick it, its running new bootrom if that makes a difference.

Just sorted it, updated to latest FW, then back to 1.4, then 6.15, then unlocked via 5.13.04.

Took the long way but is now unlocked, quicker than a month from Orange anyway.
