TVL officers shouldn't have to put up with abuse, but nither should homeowners have to put up with this:

TVL visiting officers are commission based, so want you to get a licence or be 'nicked'. A TVL visiting officer could use your admittance of having a TV to try and incriminate you in his zeal for commission. There was a case in Cardiff recently where a TVL visiting officer was actually forging peoples signatures on 'confession' forms in order to get commission. He was subsequently found guilty in court. At the end of the day if you don't have a tv licence and don't are not watching live TV let them check. At the end of the day it takes them a few minutes and all done. The cunts on that vid sounded like low life scum harassing people who are just trying to make ends meat. I would be surprised if the people on that vid did not watch live TV.

I have a Licence so I don't get hassled, the main problem I can see from SOME of these would be simply uttering "Have you recently moved in"? they should identify themselves and show their ID THEN ask questions, I have no idea what the Law says about filming them but I imagine it will be different within the bounds of your own property and will change as they leave it. I think we can all make up our own minds about the value of the BBC and pay for what we use, or simply don't use it. . . .

That's the problem though isn't it Blaggard m8? If we choose not to use it then the hassle and abuse that's given intimidates most of us into paying for it! I could quite happily live without the BBC as EVERYTHING I watch now is downloaded but the wife watches Eastenders so I'm forced to pay just to have that. Whilst I love that the BBC has no adverts on it, I'd rather it had adverts and scrapped the license fee. Maybe then they would make things based on what will keep them in business rather than getting paid for any old crap.
You see, TheThingIs, eventually you'll be all right!

most people have no problem with letting them check but its not like they come once and you prove you dont have one and they say "OK", if it was that simple i dont think people would have a problem its the fact they will then hound you repeatedly as they want to keep checking that your not using it, thats where the problem is, they assume that somethings wrong if you dont want to watch TV so will keep coming back to check up on you

If you watch iplayer then you should pay the license fee. You can argue all you like about how shit bbc is but without it you wouldn't get investment in things such as iplayer or 6music (now it's safe). You wouldn't get new comedy acts that often showcase on radio 4 or the digital channels.

The argument is identical to that of downloading music for free.

Was in total agreement until the last line 'The argument is identical to that of downloading music for free' I don't think it's identical at all for so many reasons

Also lets not forget that the fee is for ALL BBC services, that's Radio, News (online?) ALL services. They have fallen over of late but over the years the BBC have produced radio and TV shows UNEQUALLED anywhere in the World and the envy of the rest of the World, their News coverage has been the Gold Standard by which all others are judged and I for one would like it to remain in business and climbing back to its previous exemplary standard.

The point here isn't whether the fee is good value or whether you should only pay the fee if you watch BBC. The issue is that if you choose to no longer watch TV, you shouldn't have to let people in to check.

A guy at my work never had a TV for about ten years. Despite this he was regularly visited by their enforcement officers. He had no problem letting them in and look around the house. On every occasion they always said they wouldn't visit again for four years but a few months later....bing bong they were back at the door.

It's the presumption of guilt that annoys me and the underhand tactics used by their enforcement officers.
I understand and accept that some people hold opinions that are different to my own. Living in a free and democratic society, I fully embrace and respect their right to be wrong.
