I can't comment on 2012 specifically but are you the owner of the folder? Are you signed in using the admin account?
was a shock for me going to 2008 from 2003 aint going near 2012 for some time lol
Shamelessly stolen from elsewhere -
You should be able to check by copying a file to the folder from another machine, assuming it's being shared. The actual read-only flag on a folder is used by Windows to mark that the folder has special customizations, but doesn't restrict write access to the folder or its contents.
If that's not the problem and you are actually having problems writing to the folder. The issue is more involved.
Thanks all!!
Finally found it FFS.. in 2012 it is part of Security Policies and Groups...
I had to disable a load of well hidden UAC type policies and now hey presto it lets me change it.
Could have at least given me an error instead of acting like it had done as requested....

Is this the Windows 8 server version?
It has the same UI as Windows 8... takes some gettin used to but I am finding performance and stability improvments over 2008 already
Does it have drive pooling or a feature like ZFS?
Can it run off a pen drive?
Pretty sure I saw that it has Drive Pooling not used it tho,
Not sure about the pen drive thing.
It is worth a tinker tho imho
I used to have occasional 2008 server/sql server issues but not had one since moving to 2012... about 6 weeks
As I am just building my NAS box and trying to decide between using Windows 8/Server 2012 and Unraid
If speed is an issue try it... I find it noticably more responsive than 2008 was on same hardware... but I gotta be honest the UI takes some gettin used to (Windows 8 stylee...)
There is a hack to make it look like win 7 (almost) but I am forcing myself to stick with it for now.
