Advice: Handset, Contract etc

For several years I've had a work provided blackberry so am a little out of touch when it comes to mobiles. The wife is coming to the end of her maternity leave so has to hand back her own blackberry soon so we need to sort out a mobile/tariff for her and I wouldn't mind some advice.

Firstly, I think we'd want an unlimited data tariff at at the very least quite a high usage allowance (three or giffgaff?). I've see a deal for a free Samsung Galaxy S2 and 20 pounds a month for 24 months with enough mins and texts (300 mins / lots of texts) but am thinking even this may be excessive - the missus is likely to use web browsing / GPS etc but not really play many games etc.

I've seen sim free prices around 100 pounds for the Samsung Galaxy Ace and HTC Wildfire S handsets which couple with a 13 pound of contract I think would fill our needs.

Are there any other phones in that kind of price range people think we should look at or should we spend the extra for the S2?

Or you could buy a phone off fleabay etc and then look at the sim free deals that are around.

If you got virgin cable broadband or the tv package you can get a real good deal on a mobile.

I got a Nokia Lumnia and get unlimited tinternet with 2500 mins to anyone talk time and unlimited txts for £11.50. I use the phone as a wifi hotspot so i get free internet on my lappy when im not at home. It is very fast.
