Required free webcam software

Have dug out an old low resolution webcam, from what i remember the old software wasn't much cop and is not supported anymore. Looking for some free software just to record. If any have some setup/tweaking colour features etc that would be a bonus. Not expecting much from it, but tested through vlc and pretty sure some newer dedicated stuff will be an improvement.

I run linux and the best software on there is cheese webcam booth, you can download it from the software store
