Default Opening a port on a netgear router

Hayelp hayelp in a Penelope PitStop stylee, have accessed the router but am lost and google seem to be confusing more than helpful.

Have an N150 router and am trying to open the port to my router so that nzb can download files from usenet.

Am lost and getting connection errors.

Default Opening a port on a netgear router

It's unlikely that you need to forward ports in order to download from newsgroups, though you can find guides on port forwarding for your router model here: http://portforward.com/english/route...00/default.htm

I would read through the connection settings and check that they are 100%. For instance, have you specified the ports for an SSL connection but not ticked the box to specify you want the connection to be made over SSL?

    Thanks to drdude

what ports need to be opened? port forwarding is generally straight forward, if you need port 56789 open then port forward port 56789 to 56789.

Though saying that im surprised you need to open the ports in the first place, as port 119 or 443 are standard ports all news clients use.

    Thanks to consoles

Good point - standard port is 119 (i.e. without SSL), standard SSL port is 563 and sometimes providers offer other ports such as 443 for SSL

Thank you all, but don't think the problem is the router think it maybe the computer so am reinstalling debian on the laptop and not use nzb (the program) and looking in to using something else.

Recomendations for an nzb reader for debian?
