The truth is folks - we're not raising enough in monthly donations and subscriptions

Ever since I lost my paypal account everyone's subscription canceled and pretty much no one has renewed and it's hit us hard

The minimum we need to raise monthly is 200 GBP, and every month it fails they cut the server off then I have to pay out of my own pocket - which i've done for years and years - but with a growing family (4 kids now) and I've given up many of my business interests so I can spend more time with family, its becoming increasingly difficult to fork out the cash every month.

I want to keep DF running, it's a solid site that isn't run on pure piracy and illegal shit to generate big numbers (which most sites do these days), but really need your help.

I for one would hate it if DF went down permanently, maybe if all us regular users donated £5 a month we could sort it out, i'm hardly rich but could afford such a small monthly contribution, and it would only take 40 members.

Good point there must be 200 + regularly contributing members... I would happily contribute £1 month and problem sorted... if its only 100 regulars = £2 still no complaints
70 regulars = £3 per month each (cant be arsed doing exact maths)

Is it possible to setup a monthly sub system.. obviously Paypal is no good to you what alternatives are good to you ?? Me personally have been on and off of disability last year so a low monthly sub is far better for peeps like me than £40+ per year...

There are 500 members online RIGHT now! If everyone made a xmas donation of just a fiver then that would cover the £200 needed each month. Everyone is skint but if you missed DF today when it was offline then i'm sure we can afford it. I'm overdrawn on both accounts right now but i've just donated £5. Lets hope some others join in

Is it possible to have a dif level of VIP to encourage more people to sign up? Say £10 and you get the shoutbox, and the standard £25 to get the full VIP treatment?

It's a difficult balance, I've been on forums for a good ten years, over various forums and on some 15K posts, this forum is the first time I've every donated towards a forum. For me, I thought it's a lot of money, but for the prestige, and the VIP area it would be worth it. Many people don't renew, as I don't feel the "prestige" is enough to make me pay that for what after all is an internet forum.

There are of a lot of kind members, who do a lot of kind things, maybe they should only be restricted to VIPs only and free members don't get access to BST/Offers/Members giving etc?

Not sure there is a magic answer, to be fair, as you need something to make members turn VIP but then it's crazy how fast a year can feel it passes, and suddenly you think, what did I get for my cash that a regular member didn't, on this internet forum where I know no-one. That's the harsh truth.

Bigbird has a point. I also help a lot of members on PM with regards to data. The majority of which are VIPs though at the time I never noticed who was VIP and who was not only now looking though do i see a majority of VIP tags.

The VIP status has never appealed to me as I don't need links and rarely sell anything. Though the fact that all non VIP forum postings are now open to google search in addition to that ghost forum that has always cloned DF might change my mind.

I understand that it's difficult to attract new members on a closed forum but even now most get shot down in flames before they ask for a radio code.

All the fun I believe is on the non VIP area where the majority of the members are.

This said i am more than happy to put some regular pennies in the pot as I have had some great laughs and help here over the years and would like it to continue.
