Was a very common problem on the MkI Toyota MR2, my only suggestion is to avoid using the handbrake if it'll be a frosty one and instead put the car in gear.

I used to suffer this on my MK4 Golf GTI.

I used to park it on the road (slight decline) with from wheels to the left (so it rolls into the kerb) but then also in first gear.

Failing that, I used to throw warm water over the calipers.

Don't think i ever use my cars hand brake, on hill starts i just use the throttle and clutch, and when parked up i leave it in gear, problem solved

Calipers on the rear?. If its a hub the only thing that will sort it is taking the hub off and clean and lube.

to be honest.. its ugly as fuck.. absolutely didnt want one but arm was twisted by mrs...
Now.... Love it... Soooo practical.. loads of room great visibility... Very economical engine runs really well... being Fiat all the dash falls apart and random electrical things stop working but usually start working again lol

Would have another... the newer ones have changed the frog eyes and look normal now.

Big change from Accord Type-r but my heavy footed racing days are over.. flat cap and slipper time ;-)

    Thanks to macmilm

Dad used to have this problem on his astra. Best way around it if they are drums is to take the wheel off and give it a good wack with a hammer.

not always rear brake directly, if the cables are tired and hold water in the outer that becomes ice and stops the cables retracting, seen this a load of times, usually after the owner has fitted callipers etc.

FFS just been back out there.. still frozen solid.... poured loads of warm water on drum tried whacking it (with wheel on, lent my fookin jack out)
if I let the hand brake off and put back on there is no feeling/resistance in it so something is frozen somewhere...
    Seriously fukin me off now..
Work fucked and now so is my fried breakfast...

The rear brakes are not frozen with water. The hand brake cable has frozen. The little rubber boots at the end of the cables have worn or split so water gets in and freezes.

Either replace the rubber boots or replace the cables.
