Google Admits that Google Maps for iOS is better than Android - Earlier Today, the search giant, Google has released much awaited Google Maps for iPhone and iPod Touch. As we posted earlier that Google Maps is the best navigation application available in the iTunes with tons of amazing features. Well, the even surprising thing is that Google Maps for iOS is even better than Google’s own Android OS and yes Google admits that.

This news came from the NYtimes via 9to5mac when the writer of NYtimes in his detailed review of Google Maps app said that Google admitted that Google Maps for iOS is better than the Google Maps for Android. This is really astonishing that Google has put much power and amazing features in the iOS version making it more useful and better than the Android version. Here’s what the NYtimes posted:


“It’s a lot of features. The big question: How well did Google cram them in without sinking the app with featuritis? This, it turns out, is the best news of all. The brand-new, completely rethought design is slick, simple and coherent. Google admits that it’s even better than Google Maps for Android phones, which has accommodated its evolving feature set mainly by piling on menus…


…Finally, although Google Maps runs fine on the iPad, it’s just a blown-up version of the iPhone version. There’s not yet an iPad-specific app. Google says that goodies like those will be coming soon.”


Although the Google Maps is much better as compared to the Apple Maps but still it lacks some features such as Offline Maps and no iPad-specific app. But According to report, Google will soon release the update to Google Maps application which will have these missing features such as support for iPad and Offline Maps.

What looking on google maps on my pc then on my S3 and triple checked on ipad to make sure?

All pointed to the wrong and different places I have little confidence

it was a fair obscure address to be fair but still

maybe it was cos I was searching for a business address through google then maps etc instead of a proper post code search etc - not impressed tho made me late for an interview and am pretty sure the place I was going to were even less impressed by my tardiness

I've used it all over the UK and in various parts of the world and its never let me down.

Its always worth drilling down to Street View though to actually see where you're going and to know those last few turns.

Not teaching you how to suck eggs mate, that's just my experience having used it for years.

Triple checking doesnt matter when its the same source for all 3 devices

doesnt work so well in china but that has more to do with the fact they demolish and build streets every 5 minutes.

To 'address' the original post, the IOS version is better becasue its newer, makes sense to release the new version on a platform that doenst have a decent mapping system than one that already has google maps, plus the fact that the internet is falling over itself to praise google, its a big up yours to apple.

While I will admit it has got a few discrepancies with its map data, it's definitely one of the best gps/mapping programs there is. None of them are 100%, but Google's effort is top IMO.

Been patiently waiting for Google to release this. Just wish I could get shot of iOS maps altogether now!

What you have to understand is that Google couldn't really give a shit about Android, its a side show, just another platform for advertising. They are after all an advertising company that does 'search'. So its win-win for everyone, including Google and Apple.

Also... Is it really better than the Android version? I'm thinking it's probably pretty similar. It's been said above that the iOS version has no offline maps. Yet. the android version does...! Is that what makes it better? It sounds worse? What exactly is it that makes it better? More poor journalism...!

Google Maps are immense. I never use the Tom Tom anymore.

It's slicker, quicker and not full of the shit they tested on Google users. Actually I preferred the old version to the Android version too. . .
On my Sensation the Navigation was great but locked up the phone, on the iPhone . . . . . .

I have a work ipad. I will have a look and see if it is actually true...!


Time for me to finally take the ipad out the box, I guess. It's been sat on the side in my bedroom for 3 weeks now. Needs activating in itunes, and I can't be arsed...!
