freenas advice.

after becoming frustrated with the dwindling unraid community/support ive decided to look elsewhere for my file storage needs, freenas appears to tick all the boxes and the forum seems to be full of usefull info. hibernate/suspend at set times etc is a feature im interested in to try and cut some of my energy bills, which from what I,ve read is possible.

I've got one of the HP micro servers that I would be using, but it looks like I'll have to upgrade the ram to 8gb, so before I go and spend my money I thought I'd ask some other users etc.

Only other option I looked at was whs 2011 or whs 2011 with flexraid, but it looks like whs is coming to an end in 2013 so has put me off as I'd worry about support issues.

Any other options out there?

I personally use Server 2008 r2 on my microserver, works well for me.

i haven't looked into that tbh mate as i assumed it would be far too indepth/complicated for a novice like me, plus from what i can see its £400 plus to buy. unless theres other copies around but not sure of the security of it all then.

any opinion on freenas, good or bad?
