Tech BT offers totally unlimited broadband at lower prices

    Source: http://www.btplc.com/news/articles/s...-c17e79ba559e}

BT broadband customers can now get more for less, thanks to Totally Unlimited BroadbandBT has introduced Totally Unlimited Broadband on all but its entry level offerings – and cut its prices.

Now without any usage limits, and free from traffic management, options start from just £16 a month for 16Mbps copper broadband; £23 for 38Mbps BT Infinity fibre broadband; or £26 for 76Mbps BT Infinity.

Previously, the cheapest way for BT broadband customers to go unlimited was by taking a £26 a month option.

New customers now also get the first six months free, offering a big saving at the entry point for unlimited BT broadband.

John Petter, BT Retail Consumer managing director, said: “We believe we have boosted our broadband offering by moving our best broadband deals to totally unlimited.

“Customers told us that they wanted to be able to enjoy catch-up TV, streamed films and other bandwidth-eating applications without having to worry about going over their limit or being slowed down by their ISP.

“But we wanted to make that really affordable too, without the sort of traffic management Virgin Media, TalkTalk or EE customers may find themselves subject to.

“Unlike Sky, we’re extremely confident that our network can stand up to the extra bandwidth demands from totally unlimited products everywhere across the UK.”

BT is also announcing BT Cloud, a new online storage service with a free allowance for all consumer broadband customers. BT Infinity 76Mbps and top-tier copper customers receive a 50GB allowance.

The service allows BT’s consumer broadband customers to safely and securely back up and share their photographs, documents and videos wherever they are.

Totally Unlimited Broadband will be available from 1 February. Existing customers will be able to switch to Totally Unlimited Broadband by signing a new contract.

I like the dig at Sky I moved numerous customers over to this new ADSL package this week as TalkTalk broadband went tits up in my village about 5 weeks ago and still they haven't sorted it even though I have complained on various account numbers and chased up almost daily in one case. As a result those clients I was assisting are all moving to BT. Seems well priced to me.

Lucky you... I have a mate who does the requisitioning of the infinity kit into exchanges in the North East and I still can't get any set dates for activation. Still, I'm selling a couple of properties (one of which I live in) and one of my stipulations for the new house is Infinity enabled

What does this mean for current Infinity customers? Sweet FA by the looks of it.

    --edit
But I'm already unlimited at 60Mb FTTC with no Traffic Management for £26 per month.

Have it booked for next week. They're offering 160mb for £36. Tempting.

Available to me at end of March but doubt I will bother tbh. 19.5 is fast enough on Be and they have been a great provider which only cost 18 month inc phone line with free calls...

I will never get fibre here, our exchange serves 350 properties, we got ADSL in 2005 and ADSL Max in 2006 But as there are so few people here and most are old I tend to get the full 8mb.

I'm with sky and am stuck with 4-5mb connection with evening weekend calls and line rental for £22 a month or increase speed to 36 mb with bt for that sort of price excluding calls and line rental. Not really a deal worth taking at the minute for the browser, gamer and streamer

I'm about to start my second month on Infinity..only getting 15MB down and 8MB up. Still better than the ADSL I had before which was 6/1.5 but somehow I feel cheated it's not any faster.

Also I noticed they take uploads into account for the monthly 40GB cap which is a bit of a con.

did they do a test in your house with a meter before/while installing? did they tell u how quick it should be? i dont get a any cap at all but i have their top package. its been brilliant tbh - had it two years - no downtime - constant 79 down 38 up

Don't know about testing whilst installing because I wasn't there. Different speed test sites give different readings. For some reason, I can't get to speedtest.net on my desktop via LAN but can use their app using wi-fi on my mobile.

you need to do a wired test using a device plugged into the router . there is a bt speed checker.

Thanks for that, reporting 40/8. I'll try speed tests at other time too. Maybe they are throttling me because I've gone over the 40GB cap.
