    Default Istanbul

Right I've finally relented and decided I am having a holiday. Been an age since I had a real break so I'm off to Turkey for about 10 days.

Flying to Istanbul and having 2 nights in a hotel there. Then flying to a beach resort on the coast. Where I plan to do as little as possible.

Whats to see/do in Istanbul and wheres some nice eateries?

Can't comment on Istanbul sorry but if its anything like Ankara it will be fantastic. Ask maltloaf, I'm sure he went to Istanbul years ago on a business trip. I think he liked it.

Istanbul is an excellent place to eat, slightly less excellent to drink in. Depending on which part you stay in you can do very well. In terms of places to see, really and truly two days is nowhere near enough but; Topkapi Palace is a must (there is also a very nice restaurant there with views overlooking the Bosporus), the Blue Mosque should also be seen and the two are quite close together and easily do-able in one day. The Basilica cystern (sp?) is an interesting visit and Hagia Sophia is too. These are all on the Fatih side, Beyoglu is a bit more cosmopolitan and has a few more drinking places too with Dolmabahche Palace nearby.
It goes without saying you should visit the Grand bazaar. I found the best thing food wise was just walking around and seeing where was busy, It is vastly underrated for restaurants so you will struggle to go wrong.

Great places to eat and a great mixture of european eastern and arabic food. Would also recommend a trip over the bosphorous on a boat taxi.. small boats that speed across inbetween all the tankers and other big ships using it. People were very friendly whne i went a few years ago.
    Have Fun
