My dad knows a fair few professional gamblers. All of them only place a half a dozen bets a year, but when they do bet it's life changing amounts.
I guess some people can make it pay... Me, I bet 15 quid on horses in the national. Got 8.75 back lol

I bet a few quid each week on football. I pick 6 correct scores in a lucky 63 in the SPL (3.50 a week, best ever win was 6.5k) I do a lucky 15 on 4 first scorers in the premiership- never had all 4 tho, had 3 a few times, but never the 4 and a couple of quid on a scorecast for the Celtic game. I worked out I was up £220 in March alone. With my 6.5k win a few years ago I'll always be up to the bookies I reckon.
If I get all 6 correct scores it'll pay around 150-200k for a 3.50 bet and the mortgage will be gone!

i must say i dont know anyone that makes money by gambling but to me that aint really the point, i only bet small amounts that i am happy to lose but the enjoyment i get from watching the horse race or the event that i have bet on is worth it to me.
I think the same way - if you could reliably make money gambling the bookies wouldn't exist.
I've always steered clear because I know how my mind works - I like to understand how things work, and once I think I've cracked something, noone can talk me out of it until I find the problems with my hypothesis myself.
Translate this to gambling - I would probably start tiny bets trying to figure out my system. One day I would think I've sussed it and probably would start winning until the inevitable day comes along where I loose the lot.
However, we know there has been organised match fixing in the past. If you have access to that level of information it's probably a different story.

I gamble every week on the football, makes it more exciting. I bet on big events and have the odd flutter at the dogs or horses or visit the casino. Fruit machines or the £500 JP machines in the bookies are what you should watch out for, too easy to lose large sums in there, would not recommend them at all.
One of my mates lost his job and managed to pay the bills and mortgage for a year and a half using profits made from poker (online & casino).
It can be done but it was a full time job for him, paying less than minimum wage when you took the hours into account. All day he was studying poker books and ways to gain an advantage over the opponent. Then all through the night he was entering poker tournaments because far more money changes hand when drunk Americans come online.
He was make a grand a month clear profit, but then had his account frozen with all his profit in it because he'd been on a few final tables with a guy called potripper who had basically hacked the online casino so he could see everyone's cards. By the time the investigation was complete and funds unfrozen he'd lost the house...
Prob could have done it for a fair bit longer

Not a gambler myself but some of my mates are always in the bookies.
Imo you only hear about the wins with them, they will shout from the roof tops when they get a £100 win but fail to mention that the day before they lost £150
I rarely bet but I've had a go over the last few weeks and had relative success - basically I've won 5 out of 6 bets but I didn't stake much. It was mostly spur of the moment betting.
I have been in the pub when blokes have bet hundreds in play on football. Seems mad at the time but they're earning a couple of grand a week so it's up to them how they piss it away.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...
Gambling is much more in depth than just going into the bookies and randomly placing bets. The systems that people use have very strict guidelines such as starting with betting banks, only betting 5 or 10%, strict methods of choosing your bets, etc. There are two main aspects of any system the staking plan and the method of choosing bets. But then there are many types of betting systems such as lay, backing, arbs, etc. A good starting place with lots of free advice info and free betting systems is http://www.laybackandgetrich.com. As with most things learn and understand exactly what you are going to do, start small and move on from there. But remember with any system there is always risk no matter what safe guards you put in place!

I'm a 'money wasting cunt' as you put it, but i do it for the excitement and entertainment of it, as opposed to the dream that it'll make me rich.
Some of the sums that i've lost would make most of my friends cry, but it's money that i've been in a position to afford to lose. Whilst i do get carried away at times, i think that i have the discipline to stop myself when the need arises. So far so good anyway.
I have huge amount of respect for anyone who hasn't and won't ever gamble though.

All the lads on my football team bet.
1 lad that is really bad won 11k on a Saturday and had 500 of it left by the Sunday.
It seems to me if they bet on the football matches only it aint that bad but as soon as you start on the machines in the bookies your fucked
I don't gamble as a rule unless its a big event like the grand national or derby ect. What I do is a little bit of betmatching and arbing an even a little sharbing. This is in no way shape or form gambling but you do use the bookies lol. I am member of a forum at the moment where guys are clearing 4k+ on good months and maybe 1k ish on quiet months. All easily attainable IF you 1. Have a big enough float 2. Put in the commitment and 3. DO NOT GAMBLE
I read of people who have made pretty big sums of money only to stupidly gamble it away. If you have any sort of addictive personality or are always searching for the next big rush then best stay well clear.
An example of my low grade gambling was when England were playing away at San Marino the other week. I was betting on a goal in the next 10 minute period, then winning and doubling it up. Paddy Power were still offering evens on a goal in the 71st to 80th minute! Nuts especially as England were scoring every ten minutes.

Avoid bookies fobts. They are fixed. Roulette on those machines are fixed to fuck.
normal Cat C fruties arent to bad when an emptier gets released publicaly.
Many years ago i had, don't laugh, a horse racing prediction program for my computer, basically you inputted the weight, jockey, previous form of the horse etc for a race, and the program picked a winner.
Probably more luck than anything else i won £500 from a £1 treble, the last horse came in at 33/1
Obviously after that i was hooked but only ever managed one more win of note of £250, many losses later i gave up.
I've not had a bet for ages now.
I knew a guy who used to have a bizarre system - he would play those roulette machines but he would cover nearly every square. I have no idea how, but pretty much every time he would end up in a profit.
Been donkies years since I heard of a working emptier. Problem was the makers got comfortable with a certain program so just cloned the same machine with different case art. Almost every machine you see nowadays is Deal or no Deal or a clone or it.
Probably luck mate, only some numbers would land him on profit after a spin. I had a period of a week when I went to the bookies with my cousin and every day he left with £200-800 profit. Since them I have seen him sit and stick in £100-300 and win nothing, this has farrrrr outweighed any of his wins. They are designed to pay out big once in every so often which tempts dreamers to gamble their hard earned away. Incredibly dangerous if you have an addictive personality, I do have a flutter in them but advise anyone to steer clear and stick to sportsbook betting, hard to lose high sums like in the machines which allow something like £100 stakes on a spin and more IIRC on blackjack hands.
I stuck $1 in a machine at the airport in Las Vegas once and won $10
Stuck 25c in a slot in a casino and one of the waitresses came over and offered me a drink so I got a free drink, waited for her to come back and put another 25c in the machine so a drink for 50c didn't seem too bad.
Working at a football club we all received letters from the FA informing us we are not allowed to bet on ANY football not long after Rooney's uncle or what ever relation he was had issues or somthing.
I used to have a customer who's mate made and still does make a good living from betting, his mate is a bloke called Fred Done.
