    Default Access Sickbeard from internet

    Hi guys,

I've got a server setup with Sickbeard, couchpotato, sab etc...

I wanted to know if it would be possible to access the programs from another PC/tablet etc over the internet? If so what would be required? Also is there anything to worry about on security front?

Enable logins to the apps in their respective settings and note down their port numbers. Forward these ports in your router and set them to forward to the lan IP of your server. Then connect to another network using your mobile device (or use mobile 3G) and test by entering your servers WAN IP (you can find it here) so you are browsing to http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5000 where the x is your IP and the end number is the port of the program you have forwarded in your router.

Now you need to check if your ISP provides you with static IP or not, usually they charge extra for static IP. If this is the case you will need to setup DynamicDNS in your router, if your router doesn't support it then you can install an update client onto your server to connect the DDNS to. This ensures you can always access your apps even when the WAN IP changes. e.g. http://www.myserver.mymediapc.com:5000 will then take you to an app. When you connect it should prompt for your apps username/password and voila you now have remote access.

    For DDNS I use www.no-ip.com.
If you want additional help with port forwarding on your router check here.
Good idea to set your server to static IP on your LAN so the port forwarding always goes to the correct device.

    2 Thanks given to evilsatan

thanks for the detailed reply mate, will give it a go when I've got some spare time.

Is it quite safe to forward ports from internet to server?

Yes should be fine as you are defining specific ports which would only allow access to those services afaik, pair that with password end login to the apps and you should be fine. I have all of my services remotely accessible.

Another option is to set up a VPN to your home network. You only need to open one port and then you can access your internal network at 192.168.x.x.

Loads of guides to set it up with Windows 7 and probably a little more secure than forwarding individual ports.

I did the exact same thing as this which evil satan showed me before and it works great.

I can now login like you want but also use specific apps for sickbeard and sabnzb on my phones too.

Tanis is a great app for sabnzb if you can find it.
