What make/model is your phone? What version of Cyanogenmod is it running currently? Every so often a change is made in the Cyanogen nightlies which requires a full wipe, but generally, updating from nightly builds does not wipe your phone. I update the latest nightly build every day on my Galaxy S.

Nightly builds are here for Galaxy S III:
    http://www.get.cm/?device=i9300

I've been using nightlies for over a year and never had a problem.. no point waiting for milestone or stable builds IMHO.

But try CyanDelta - after installing and giving it your current rom zip, it will run daily to download the latest nightly build directly, and flash it automatically with one click:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...yandelta&hl=en

Using CyanDelta it downloads the builds only using approx 10MB - compare that to 160MB for the full rom zip. It does that by downloading a patch only for the file(s) that have changed between each nightly. Clever stuff.

See my updated post above, and also for reference, XDA is often the best place to ask about this type of thing:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2035141 (see the upgrading instructions in 1st post or try CyanDelta as mentioned above)

Let us know how you get on!

thanks again, this is way over my head...ive been an Appleite since day 1 so it seems very confusing. for some reason. basically i know that i have 10.1 so these are the instructions....

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 10.1:
    - Copy CM10.1 ZIP to your SDCard where do i get this file from... phone or from the internet?
    - Boot into Recovery
    - Flash CM10.1 zip from SDCard -when is says flashing it - is it opening up the file up or just moving it over?
    - Reboot

The zip file in question can be downloaded here:
http://www.get.cm/?device=i9300 (the zip at the top of the list is the newest build)
You can download that zip through your phone. Or on your PC, then transfer to phone.

Flashing - when you boot into recovery there is a menu that lets you choose a zip file to flash. No need to unzip that file yourself.

How to enter recovery mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki...Download_Modes

While in recovery mode, before you flash, you might want to choose the "Nandroid backup" option - that way you can restore your phone easily if something goes wrong. I don't bother but as this is your first time flashing it might be wise.

p.s. what is the model number of your phone? i9300 or i9305 or something else? The CM nightly rom link given above is for the i9300 model only I believe. Do not blame me if you brick your phone.

If when you reboot after flashing you appear to have lost Google Apps (Gmail etc), then grab the Google Apps pack here and simply flash it in the same way you did with the Cyanogenmod zip:

Good luck.. make sure your phone is charged with at least 50% battery life before flashing anything.

They are the same. If I was you I should flash via recovery the first time, then use CyanDelta for subsequent flashing. Your currently installed rom is probably to old to use CyanDelta anyway.. that won't be a problem after you flash though.

Many changes are "under the bonnet" improvements you might not notice. As you use your phone over the next few days you may start to notice little changes and improvements.

Between now and your old build in Feb there have been hundreds of not thousands of commits, you can view the changelog here:
    http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=i9300
Its a commit-by-commit changelog so it may be hard to decipher unless you are a technical person, but still, having a look will give you an insight into the kinds of changes that are being made.
