Advice what is the boards opinion on the current best antivirus

Looking to find out what the current views are on antivirus products as my nortons 360 has finished and the thought of going back to that bloat and system resource hugging piece of ..... fills me with no joy.

Anyone able to provide some advice on what is the current top antivirus / pc protection suite?

I was thinking of BitDefender Total Security 2013 after reading some of the reviews on amazon its almost as bad it seems as nortons.

    Thanks in advance

Eset. No point running malwarebytes with it. Ad hoc only from USB portable version.

Think we all in agreement if you going to pay for it then ESET NOD32 but if not then Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes touch wood all good so far.
Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

Thank you all for your help on this, next question is version of eset, not really sure if I should go for the full budha eset smart security 6 (seems hard to get this anywhere apart from own site any idea why? Amazon has v5) or should I go for the next one down just the antivirus - they are home pc's and need at least 3 licences.

I am not seeing what the differences are other than maybe firewall and anti theft which touch wood is it really required?

    Thanks in advance

Another vote for e-set - paying about £17 per pc (for a 3 year Smart Security 5 licence) - worth every penny

Can't remember too far back but I know I got the last 2 major upgrades included free - just get an email saying go to the e-set site and download the update - upgrading to v6 as I type, also a free of charge update

I personally use comodo but it can be heavy on resources but if you ran Norton it should be faster than that

Bit Defender is dire well it was about 2 years ago when we installed it on a site and it just killed the whole network over the afternoon we were installing it. previously installed on a 5 workstation network few config issues but fine after. It was even worse removeing the software we even had one of their own engineers come out to help check the config was correct and installed ok which it was and they couldn't work it out what had gone wrong.

We are currently selling trend worry free business security which is pretty good configurable to run on older pc's and better pc's by changeing the scanning modes and monitoring online so I can see whats happening.

Personal pc's at home security essentials and the free reseller trend licences

never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!

My personal opinion is that a good firewall is very important mate, but that's just me. It can also show you active internet connections which is useful if you need to do some diagnostics etc. on a browser that my be getting a bit sluggish, there are some devious port activity and dubious sites about that you aren't sometimes aware are connected or trying to.

    Thanks to burner1
