I really wouldn't take too much notice to a lot of online reviews and general forum opinions (except for here of course!) I have used and compared a number of the current cameras and I own a fucking ancient Sony A700 and the noise on my camera according to stats and analysis is eons behind ANY current camera. When comparing shots, admittedly there's a noticeable difference but its not like night and day like the reviews would suggest and my camera is 6 years old now.
I imagine the same applies to video really, any camera you buy is going to be more than you will ever need, so pay little attention to the average fanboy monkey who would scream from the rooftop that a rival camera is utterly useless when in reality the differences are absolutely un noticeable outside of a studio test rig.

As far as I am concerned, choose a camera by the type, not by the brand as I believe that is far more important.

Everything i've ever read says the exact opposite, that Canon are better when it comes to video, so there you go.

Agree with that. Check out most of the mountain biking movie edits these days and they are all filmed on Canon.

this is one of the things that people get hooked up on when reading online reviews. Sure, Canon may have the edge for video, maybe Nikon have the edge of high ISO but that doesnt mean every other brand is useless. In the real world the average user isn't going to even notice any difference. If there was any clear leader in either field it would dominate the market, but in reality its a pretty even field.

When I worked in the Post Production industry, more and more professionals were using Canon cameras to shoot indie videos, music video's and some scenes from major releases.

The software I worked on (Nucoda by Digital Vision) as well as competitors (Baselight, Pandora, Avid etc..) were all making changes to be compatible with these uncompressed native files too. There was no mention of Nikon, Fuji etc... So if you wanted video I would certainly choose Canon.
    We all make mistakes sometimes
