Help Question about Fuji over Canon .. sort of.

Has anyone on here used the Fuji X-Pro1 ?
How does it compare to a canon 5D or 6D ?

Looking to buy the wife a camera for her new business she was sort of mind made up about Canon but then read the following
    blog by Zack Arias http://zackarias.com/blog/
Who I am sure you guys will know of his work... he is kind of saying these Fuji's are the future, he has switched to em blah, blah, blah.
So now not sure what to do..
Her main requirement is the ISO has to be good for some birth photography she will be doing where flashes are a no no.

Thanks for any advice or tips e.t.c

Apparently the newer Fuji's use a patented rounded edge lense that allows for much more info getting captured (per megapixel) over a flat cut lens used by Canon/Nikon e.t.c Plus the CMOS's are completely different approach to other cameras
But I could be talking bollox.. just going by what I have read.

    Cheers

Been toying with the X-Pro 1 for a while now and will probably end up with an X-Pro 2 when that drops to be honest. For ease of handling the Fuji wins it but if you want the true versatility of an SLR backed up by a shitload of lenses and other accessories then go with the Canon.

In that blog he kind of indicates that with the X-Pro 1 you dont need all the lenses cos its soooo good... is that a bit bullshitty cos I did notice Zack Arias has done some work for Fuji so his opinions may not entirely unbiased if you know what I mean...

How do you find it in low light situations bertroot?? good ISO performance

    Thanks for info

I ain't got one yet so cannot comment and using a 40D for my main rig and a Canon G9 for snaps. Both of those will go along with my lenses and flash etc to fund the X-Pro2.

Calumet amongst others do rentals but I doubt you will get one on the Fuji as they tend to focus on the DSLR bodies that folk aspire to rather than something like the Fuji.

Another thing worth thinking about is the release of the Pro2 isn't far away so may be worth hanging on and getting a reduced Pro1. Should drop a bit in price then.

    edit: Actually no -

RUMOR UPDATE: X-PRO2 coming late 2013 early 2014

I promised you that I’d come back as soon as trusted sources told me more, so here I am.
According to these sources, that were right in the past, Fuji won’t launch the X-PRO2 before late 2013 early 2014. So now I can exclude with certainity that, as rumored first in this Nippon Magazin, the X-PRO2 will be available in June.
So, still time to give Fuji some advice about how we’d like the X-PRO2 to be. Just write your wish list in the comments. I got some suggestions via email.
    1) flip screen
    2) wifi
    3) touch screen
    4) Allow customisation of the Q menu
    5) focus peaking (where you can choose colour)
    6) environmental sealing (from the comments. keep up your suggestions)
Some of these suggestions (for the X100S) can be found over here at uservoice.com.
Feel free to extend this hardware and software improvements-list for the future X-PRO2 in the comments.

I'm also sitting on my hands waiting for the x-pro2, or more likely the x-e2. That said, the fuji (or any) mirrorless camera are very different to a full frame DSLR. If mobility, size and weight arnt an issue, then the 5D or 6D will be better cameras, if not for image quality but speed and usability.

The end requirements should really decide it for you, for me I am going to be carrying my camera while cycling and a DSLR and 3 lenses aint much fun hanging off your ass.

Thanks for all the help guys.. think it makes more sense for her to go 5D as weight/size no issue plus she uses lightroom which from looking around the interweb some are saying fuji's x range has some issues in lightroom e.t.c

Has anyone any experience purchasing hardware from abroad.... Singapore seems to have much better prices or would I be likely to never see the camera lol

Its fine getting stuff from abroad but check the warranty, not sure on Worldwide Canon warranties. I bought a couple of Sigma lenses in the old days from Hong Kong on the understanding that if there were issues with them they had to go back there at my cost.

most companies have international warrenties, but you'd be best checking as not all do.

Sigma are a set of cocks and charge an additional £100 to repair lenses if they have been bought abroad, even though they lenses are exactly the fucking same.

Canon do not honour warranties for items purchased outside Europe. If you go for the none eu option then your only warranty will be with the company you purchased it from.

If i was spending that much money on a 5D or 6D i would definitely buy one over here, if it goes tits up i can imagine it being a nightmare to sort out if you purchased it from abroad.

    5D Mkiii

Seriously though, if i had a choice and money wasn't an issue and you mean a 5d1 then i would get a 6D, and no matter what you read, when it comes down to it a full frame DSLR like a Canon 5Dmkiii or Nikon D800 will pee all over the Fuji X-Pro1 APS-C or any other less than full frame sensor when it comes to iso noise, which you say is most important.

    Right...
    here goes...

    I am a Nikon.
BUT i know some pro's who have made the change to Fuji for portability, mainly because they are getting old and lazy. They love them and general consensus is that they are fantastic.

Do not listen to what Zac Arias or Damien McGillicudy says about the Fuji as they are both sponsored by them.

Look for Wedding photographers who use them, that is where you will find better reviews and true examples of low light photography. That appears to be the main drawback for this kit, the sensor is good and the glass is fantastic but because of the size the noise is still high.

    Another BUT....

Be realistic about what low light is. Nothing is going to be moving that fast during labour so you can probably shoot at 60th second so you have have lower ISO and therefore less noise. Maybe consider some LED light panels they work really well and you can get a decent Yongno one for £50.

But the best thing to do would be to get a decent second had camera and lens.

But the biggest BUT of all is that most people take beautiful sharp shots in their camera and the run presets or run them through siverFX or something to add noise to make them look better....

    Go figure....

    Thanks to crashtestmac

as good as the 5d mk2 is the 6d is supposed to have the edge on high ISO and low noise
the 5 d mk3 is better than both in all aspects

if low noise is the most important thing you should be looking at nikon they have always had the edge in that department

    Thanks to cosmicma

with the lower canons, infact anything before the mk3 the main complaint seemed to be around focusing. The noise is something that you can learn to live with and try to work round but if the shot misses its focus then it makes no difference what the iso and noise is like.

I have done a lot of shooting with a Mk2 recently and i like it, they fell solid and robust and i like the wheel on the back, but over 1200 ISO it is shocking. No idea about the 6d though i am afraid.

Just get a 50 or 85mm 1.8 lens and you can take 2 stops of the aperture. Glass will probably help you more than the camera in this case. I hear good things about the sigma 50mm.

    Thanks to crashtestmac

I have the 6D and i must confess I love it.

when we were choosing a camera it was a toss up between the Canon 6D and the Nikon D600. One think that hasn'T been mentioned is Video. If you intend to shoot video then Nikon is the camera to have. However we did not want to shoot video so that wasn't an option. when you compaire the 6D and the D600 they are so simular cameras that it really comes down to preferance. i must confess i was edging towards Nikon but two facts brought us to the 6D. The inbuilt wifi.... which is brilliant and canons 40mmm pancake lense which is also brilliant and tiny.... this makes using a DSLR at a party almost like using a compact.

    Thanks to MsDG
