Exactly what I will be doing. Will take up the offer of a dell cdrom. Will need to check the size it takes first.

    Update on the HP.

Got all the bits it needed, just waiting for the new keyboard and battery to arrive.

Turned out the laptop was suffering from the notorious Black Screen of Death due to the flakey NVidia chip in it (DV9000's had a really bad rap because of it).
Sorted that, re-pasted the lot, reinstalled Windows 7 and everything's working lovely.

1 small problem that I've got round for now and am not sure how to solve, is it wont power on unless I hold the power button down and then attach the charger.
Never seen this fault before, but as you can see, once it's on, its great!

Tried to send a pm yesterday to say it's been posted but your pm box is full. Just tried again and it still appears to be full.

Ouch, how on earth did you sort the gpu?

I'm wondering if the turning on issue may sort itself with a battery, although I once received a dell that would only turn on if the charger was plugged so I sent that back.

Apologies I honestly did not know of these issues due to lack of suitable charger - when I popped it up for sale here I thought just the screen alone must be worth what I was asking for the whole thing.

No need to apologise, I'm well pleased with it. I was half expecting the Black Screen TBH. Just reflowed it for now and put better cooling pads/thermal paste in.
Your absolutely right, the screen was worth the dough alone, but prefered the challenge of getting it up and running!
Will find out about the Power issue. Nothing major though considering I can get it on!

    Thanks to DejaVu

Just the Sharp (which is totally untested).

If I end up with any more similar to these in the future I'll post a new thread but don't hold your breath.

    Thanks to Over Carl

Only time I tried hackintosh was last summer, but I was trying to setup a vm on ESXi rather than on a laptop.

I know there is hacked bios out the for the D620/D630 to give a better experience when running OSX, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes on that matter.
