    Default Sky Now Box £9.99!

    https://shop.nowtv.com/

Ordered one. Looks like it's just a Roku. Hopefully there will be a way to hack the Roku software onto it - now that would be awesome! Can't really go far wrong for a tenner.

Don't see why not. It's basically a Roku with custom software.

Sign up for an account, take the free trial and grab one.

Not sure if you have to have any subscription with one? I currently have a sub that I did through Quidco.

First Month free. Then providing I stay on for two months at half price, I get £15 cashback and 5 free Sky Sports Day passes.

I have recieved the 5 passes now which expire at the end of the year and the £15 got paid into my bank from Quidco yesterday.

I am going to keep the Sub going and make sure we use it (£8.99 a month), but as far as I am aware you do not need one.

They are also allowing some apps to be installed out of the box. Facefuck, iPlayer, Demand 5, Spotify etc..

    I don't want a sub but from a quick search I think a hack might be likely. . . . .

I think they only app worth adding will be Plex, it could be that you have access to it in any case?

My mate has a subscription and says it doesn't work on his smart tv (no app) so this is ideal. His subscription can also be used on up to six devices, therefore I "Now" also have a subscription

Shame Sky don't have Premiership Rugby any more, but then again at £9.99 for a 24 hour pass I think Sky can stroll on.
I just hope BT do something similar for BT Sport, as I have no landline, no BT ADSL, no Windows PC for Silverlight and no Sky box I have no options for BT Sport!

Keep your eyes peeled for free Day passes. They are giving them out very very frequently.

I have 7 in reserve, and to be fair between now and the end of the year I will only need the 7 tops!

As for BT Sport, I am a BT Customer but I have no Sky Box to get the channels. They don't seem to be doing cards for Freeview which means I have to watch on the iPad/iPhone.
I just hope the app lets me send it to the Apple TV...

From what I gather this is a Roku LT with custom software to remove competitors stuff. Sky are investors in Roku from what I read...

I joined NowTV trial for the 5 free passes, never used the service once but now have the passes ot use as I please and cancelled the account. Bought this to have a play with, tenner sounds like good value and if it can't be hacked I can use it elsewhere.

Fuck. I still have a subscription to this shower and neeeeeed gadget... Lack of spare HDMI socket, piss ugly white box and already got it on the Xbox will (probably) not put me off.

:edit: Changed my mind. Just had a look and the movies are largely gash. Knew there was a reason I don't use it.
'Horror' section has The Fly and A Vampire In Brooklyn and the 'sci-fi' section has Men In Black and Back To The fucking Future.

Now TV: Going hands-on with Sky's new set-top box

Published Friday, Jul 26 2013, 16:04 BST | By Hunter Skipworth

Sky's own Now TV set-top box was announced by the firm just this morning (July 26). The device works by connecting up to your TV via its HDMI port, bringing Sky's on demand and streaming experience with it.

The Now TV box itself is based around the Roku 2 XS platform and is just a touch smaller than the Apple TV. In gloss white it does look rather good, but then its size means the chances of noticing it in the living room are fairly slim.

On the back of the box is a power connector, a HDMI out and a A/V out connector, and nothing else. Sky has kept things as simple as possible, with the Now TV box clearly being designed as a simple addition to your current TV set.

The remote is small and wrapped in the same gloss plastic as the box itself. The blue buttons work well enough, and the shortcut keys to things like apps and Now TV itself are handy.

Sky really wants this box to act like a Smart TV add-on for your current television set, and as such has tried to cram as much streaming tech into it as possible. The box is of course Wi-Fi capable but it does lack an ethernet connection, which could be an issue to some users.

Sky's Now TV box - announced earlier on Friday (July 26) - is small and compact.

Once connected, you are confronted with Sky's conventional Now TV user interface. Hitting the apps button will open up the box's app offering. From here you can stream content via BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Spotify, Facebook and of course Sky's own offerings.

It is worth noting that you will need a Now TV account to get started with the box, which is free to set up and doesn't require you to subscribe to Sky services.

The Now TV player, unlike its Roku XS cousin, doesn't support competing services like Netflix and Lovefilm - but at just £9.99 it can be a great way to access iPlayer with a one-off charge.

Now TV itself consists of Sky's fairly extensive pay-per-view movie rental library, as well as daily subscription tickets to channels like Sky Sports and Sky News. These tickets start at £9.99.

For the money, the Now TV box is incredible value. It's simple and easy to use, and brings a wide range of streaming content to your TV without the need to splash out on an expensive new Smart TV.

Picked one up for a tenner, worse case I'll let my daughter have it. If I could stick plex on it all the better for her. I haven't signed up yet but need to look at the five free day passes that have been mentioned. If they flood the market with them someone may decide to hack the little fella Xbmc would be very sweet!

Got mine. Put into dev mode - sideloaded Plex Happy days!

    FYI:

Home, Home, Home, Up, Up, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right

    Puts it into dev mode.

Browse to your box from a web browser on your PC and install the attached Plex client. Using it right now with no problems.

    Download Plex : Plex.zip
    Plex 2.6.6 (Latest build) : plex266.zip

By the way - you don't need a subscription to use the box. I have a NowTV account but there is no active subs. The Roky Channel installer is on the box but it appears to have a few things missing. Sideload whatever channels you want/can get your hands on using the above method
