To the best of my knowledge the hrm (and any ant+ Sensor) are just one way transmitters. The pairing process is just you telling your watch to listen out for comms from that particular sensor and no others, so once the hrm detects no heart rate it should go into power save mode.

    Ah ok.

Here are the compression stuff (shorts/top and long pants for winter) I wear http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...r=570105634887

The shorts go under my running shorts. The top is fine to wear but in the winter I wear them under something else.

Get some gloves for the winter!!! Not thick gloves, just some Magic gloves or similar.

Sure, I am all for the cheaper stuff. At the end of the day I don't pay £30 for a shirt to go on the lash with so why would I pay £30 for a compression top to sweat in!!
Cheap Korean stuff all the way for me, and if I had an Aldi at the end of the road selling it cheap, then I would grab it from there.

Tonight's 17 miles. 25odd degrees so sweating like a mofo but felt great and a really good average at the end.

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/370512871

Heart rate monitor problems solved (I think).
Got home from work, hrm is still in my box and my watch says "HRM Found" and displays a heart rate (200+).
Went to it, opened the battery compartment and the lithium cell had leaked!

Replaced that (they are £1 for 8 in a local store) and as you can see from the chart, all is well ;-)

Well my HRM has died :-(

Looks like the battery compartment seal had failed at some point which is what caused the original cell to leak and the old wacky readings.

Opened the compartment to check last night and it was soaked in there. Cleaned it all out but it doesn't seem to want to work again.

Amazon returns for that one then :-)

    this morning's 5k run

Tried to stretch out my stride a bit as I've always felt it's a bit short and the gain in time is clear, shaved 20 seconds per mile off my average. Will take some getting used to but it's definitely the way to go I think.

For the first time ever, mile 3 was faster than mile 2 which I'm really happy about. Proves to myself I can push on if I need to.

Very happy with my effort today.

    6min 25s per km
    10min 20s per mile

    cheers,

    malty

17.25km run tired but only 1 4:30+ caused by traffic.

That's a funk load I have done in two weeks. Just got on scales 9st12... I think I was born heavier!!! Wife said looking too thin so it's chippy tonight!

Looking at my map today, it is the most accurate it has been in a long long long time! Normally the beginning is a bit sketchy until the first 1km (lots of trees).

I have always been around the 10.5 - 11st mark ever since I was about 15. Never been 'fat', had a Holiday belly a couple of times but I seriously do not know what is happening at the moment.

I am eating more plus making food with 'proper' ingredients. Replacing the usual Olive Oil with proper butter etc... Snacking like a mofo at work but still the more I eat it seems the more I burn it off.

But looking at my last two weeks worth of runs and bike sessions, this could have something to do with it:

    6th Sep 17.25km
    4th Sep 14km
    2nd Sep 14km
    31st Aug 21.1km
    29th Aug 14km
    27th Aug 16km
    25th Aug 18km

Total: 114.35km in the last two weeks running.

Bike has been a total of 50km on the trainer.

I have not give myself a 2 day break on the running for a long time either...

On the eating front, Fridays in the office are with Full English (first Friday of month), Pastries or Krispy Kreme (alternating) - all gratis.
The Full English has been moved until next Thursday (visitors in then) so today is Pastries. Just knocked a custard pastry and a white choc cookie down. Run = undone lol
