Just did my first run in probably 20 years straight after a 16 mile bike.

Bike ride. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Run (although the figures are off the treadmill so probably not accurate)

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Slow as a broken down bus lol but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks mate I wasn't worried about the speed or distance just adjusted the speed to keep my heart rate in 160-165 range. 8km/h I think it said.

Thanks for the encouragement it really helps.

Look at my earlier link on twitter, gives you am indication what I'm running at and I reckon I'm pretty quick.

Did the great north run in literally a minute over 1:30 last year

I actually think its great to see. I am sort of looking to keep fit by running and hopefully do the marathon soon.

It's quite inspirational to see how you've jumped straight into it.

I bought a cheap running watch today (non GPS) hence the bst thread for a footpod so I can record time and distance accurately.

The watch was only 20 brand new so I can just use it as a watch until I get the footpod.

17.6km run tomorrow. Up in the north east though so no Sync until Sunday when I get back.

Just had to take the father in law out for a couple of pints, I am not happy about drinking them with the run tomorrow but l will still plough on.

I get a little scared doing new routes, this is a tough one tomorrow!

I've sourced a footpod from eBay and my watch should be here today so I should be logging some runs either over the weekend if I use run keeper on my phone or next week on garmin connect.

I'm really nervous about it tbh, I've never done road running !

Footpod won't be here until early next week so if I run this weekend it'll be either run keeper or using the garmin edge.

I've seen people say you can use the edge and change the activity type in garmin connect afterwards.

There's no pace field on the edge but I have it set to auto lap per mile anyway so it's kinda the same thing.

Planned out 3.1 miles along our local canal last night, just need to get out and do it now!

    ok I did my run

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

i kept finding I was going too quickly for my ability and would end up topping my heart rate out and have to walk for a minute. Once I worked out a comfortable pace it was ok.

You'll see stretches of walking here and there and sometimes the running was little more than walking pace !!

comments welcome. I want to learn !!

Personally I'm really happy I got out and did it and I'm happy with it for a first attempt but I'd like to walk much less next time.

Oh by the way the little loop the loop at the end was because I got lost. I missed the turning into my bit of the estate and ended up going 0.7 miles further than needed !

    cheers,

    malty

Managed a s-l-o-w 22 miles this morning. Tired legs from the run, too much beer last night and only 4h sleep. Did ok but didn't loosen up until about 9 miles and it shows...

Very very slow run at 5am this morning but a victory for me as I ran the whole way, a mile out along the towpath and a mile back.

    Good man.

I had a heavy weekend at a wedding and drive back late last night.

Managed a 14km this morning at a relaxed pace.

I find that Mondays are hard work. Wednesdays better and Fridays runs must more enjoyable.

You seem to be progressing pretty quickly. Just try to level out a distance, become comfortable and increase from there.

Smaller run Monday, medium Wed and bigger Fri. Or something similar.

Thanks mate. It was actually slower today than my 3 miler but a much better run and I felt really good afterwards.

I like the idea of 2 miles a day on top of my 16 mile bike although I did have very tired legs all day yesterday.

I have looked at the local maps hoping to find something loop-like around 2-2.5 miles but it's proving difficult at the moment. I'm currently unsure wether to stick to 2ish and work at getting better within that or find something longer.
